The infamous meteor has been hanging around in the sky above the Fortnite map for over a month now, and it’s been the source for plenty of discussion online. Most people think it will hit Tilted Towers, and for good reason; Tilted has been the subject of plenty of complaints from players because it ruins the flow of the map as too many people drop there and die early, making the mid-game boring and uneventful since other places of interest are devoid of life. But recently people have also speculated that it will land on Lucky Landing instead. After all, Lucky Landing was added to the game to celebrate the Chinese New Year, which has now long passed. Content from the Save The World mode in Fortnite also backs up this theory, as detailed by Reddit user /u/Kensyys. But what if both theories are wrong?
Let us disregard the actual meteor itself for the time being, and whether it’s a meteor or a spaceship or some amalgamation of the two, and focus solely on where it’s going to land, and the impact it will have. If it were to only destroy a single place on the map, it would have to have a very small area of impact. The most famous meteor - the one that wiped out the dinosaurs approximately 65 million years ago - was around six miles in diameter, and the resulting crater was about 110 miles wide. Fortnite’s map is just over 2.1 miles², and while that is obviously minute compared to the size of the historic crater in real life, a lot of focus has been placed on something that is expected to take out one small area of the map. Signs recently appeared atop Tilted Towers buildings, telescopes have been placed throughout the map, aiming up at the impending doom, and dancefloors have been created for what seem to be end-of-the-world parties.
And that’s what we think this meteor actually is: The end of the world for the people of Fortnite. Season three introduced a space theme, with various astronaut costumes unlockable through the battle pass, but throughout the season, we’ve seen new skins added to the item shop that have started to become very alien-like, along with some dinosaur inspired outfits. If this meteor is going to affect and alter the map, we believe it’s going to take out the entire island as we know it. Whether that’s through direct impact, or if the meteor will hit the ocean and create a tsunami big enough to drown out and destroy the iconic locations we’ve become so fond of, well we’ll have to wait and find out when season three finishes next week.
We want the island to turn into a barren wasteland. The map will retain its size and shape, and the locations will stay in the same place, but they will become rundown, obliterated carcasses with their original glory being a distant season three memory. The luscious green grass and fruitful blooming trees will become awash with brown, like the apocalypse has rolled through, while buildings will be shells of their former selves, dilapidated and decrepit. But where do the aliens come in?
The extra terrestrial beings aboard the meteor will inhabit the island and help rebuild civilisation. Fortnite has weekly updates that introduce new content and features, and these updates will include changes to the map, as the aliens that have taken over will erect their own buildings and towns in place of what was destroyed by their arrival. The first week or two will start off slow with foundations being laid down, but before long, the Fortnite island will have transformed into a more futuristic and sci-fi-esque environment.
Referring back to the real life occurrence with the meteor that wiped out the dinosaurs, we think this meteor/spaceship is going to do the opposite. The humans will be wiped out, which is why the citizens of Tilted Towers are celebrating the end of the world. In their place will be the visiting aliens, but also the dinosaurs and prehistoric creatures. It’s clearly not completely accurate in terms of the science, but we’re talking about a game where players can construct enormous wooden walls in mere seconds, and hop aboard a passing missile to traverse from one mountain to another. Realism isn’t the aim of the game, but parodying something that really happened is well within the realm of possibility. Plus having dinosaurs and aliens coexist is going to create some wacky and wonderful cosmetics.
All of this boils down to one thing. This Fortnite map has essentially existed since the game’s inception, back in September 2017. Some locations were added, like Tilted Towers, Snobby Shores and Haunted Hills, but the map is remained almost the same throughout. The game exploded in popularity in January of this year, but for a lot of players, this map has been the only Fortnite experience for six months or more. The start of season four is the perfect time for them to introduce a completely revamped world, and hopefully the aliens will bring that elusive jetpack with them that we’ve been eagerly awaiting.
Some upcoming skins were leaked yesterday, including a male Brite Bomber. Because we haven't seen enough of that colorful character.
