Could we be seeing Fortnite on Nintendo's flagship console sooner than we thought? Rumors are going around that it could be coming to the Switch after being announced at E3.

Our bodies are ready! Between E3 incoming like a freight train and Fortnite dropping meteors on players, there are plenty of rumors about games. But, let’s talk about some cross over in rumors between the two.

Twitter user @LeakyPandy, formerly @vandal_leaks, dropped a pretty big bombshell of a rumor yesterday: Fortnite for Switch at E3. We’ve covered the idea around it in the past, but this reported leak adds some juicy details no one guessed in prior rumors.

In the Twitter thread, LeakyPandy goes into detail about the addition of both Battle Royale and Save The World for the Switch. Where Battle Royale will be left mostly unchanged, including access to Cross-Play, the focus seems to be on the oft forgotten Save The World mode that started Fortnite’s rise to fame, long before Drake ever picked it up.

Rumor has it that both modes will come out on the Switch at the same time, but Save The World gets some real extra treats on Nintendo’s platform. Starting off, Save The World will supposedly have Switch-To-Switch play mode, allowing local play of up to four consoles to play together in the mode. This allows multiple people to play Fortnite next to each other and encourages Nintendo’s mantra of playing together.

One important detail in the rumor thread is that “Nintendo IP related content is also being worked on exclusively for StW.” This is reminiscent of current Switch ports like Elder Scrolls: Skyrim and Rocket League, where both games offer exclusive Nintendo-based content, like Super Mario and Metroid themed cars or Link’s Breath of the Wild outfit. Minecraft has been known to do this as well, offering exclusive skins on versions for Xbox or Nintendo consoles like Master Chief or Mario. So, while this isn’t out of the realm of possibility, fans may be wondering if there will be any special gear or costumes for Battle Royale as well.

Marketing plans in the rumor suggest “using the duality of Fortnite to align it with the duality of the Switch itself, picturing BR as the docked experience and StW as the on the go side of things.” With the Switch’s modes of play, this makes a ton of sense, but LeakyPandy cautions people on this particular since the info is “shaky”.

If there’s any time to announce such a big crossover, E3 is the time to do it. While it’s unknown exactly how the announcement would be planned, Nintendo generally drops a pre-recorded Nintendo Direct during the show in lieu of doing the on-stage presentations that most of the other major companies do. Knowing how Nintendo Directs work, it’s likely this announcement would be added at the end, where the presenter(s) go “Oh, wait! I forgot! We have one more thing to announce!”

While this is just a rumor, Nintendo Switch remains as one of the final systems to not have Fortnite on it, so the entire endeavor just makes sense, but until June rolls around with all the big guns, take these rumors at a complete grain of salt. Even LeakyPandy calls the entire thread “gossip”. For the entire thread, check it out here.
