One more step towards a big, happy family as the Nintendo Switch Pro Controller gains official Steam support.

One of the lesser touted but still beloved features of gaming with Steam is the ability to use a wide variety input methods when playing the games available. Used to the PlayStation controller, go for it. Feel more at home with an older Xbox 360 controller, no sweat, just plug it in and play. Feel like getting real sweaty with your friends in a fighting game and want to use that brand new custom fight stick, Steam has your back. Well, thanks to the hard work of some very talented people behind the scenes, there’s now a new way to put the hurt on your enemies, thanks to the addition of support for the Nintendo Switch Pro Controller.

As outlined in this post on Steam itself, the way to activate and start using your Pro Controller is fairly simple: “First, opt into the Steam Client Beta then enable support globally by checking the ‘Nintendo Switch Configuration Support’ option in the Controller Settings page. In case you missed it, this is the same page to enable PS4 and Xbox Configuration support. By checking this box, you are able to create, share, and browse Switch Pro Controller configs on a per-game basis. The Controller Settings page also contains a global option to ‘Use Nintendo Button Layout’. This will swap the A/B and X/Y buttons of your loaded config – something that will come in handy if you choose a Steam Controller, Xbox, or standard template config.”

Setting up custom profiles is fairly straightforward, and very useful (Steam)

As with the addition of new controllers to Steam, there is also the potential to remap inputs, and set up multiple profiles to use. Whether you want to make your own, or import a control scheme from the community, the options are laid out in a very straightforward way.
