Epic Games and Marvel dropped a Monday morning bombshell today, announcing that Fortnite's first official partnered collaboration will be Avengers: Infinity War. This got our minds churning about what could possibly be in store for Fortnite players when this collab drops. A lot of people are thinking this will be part of the 50v50 mode, but we've been thinking a litle more outside the box. We've come up with five ideas that would make this first ever Fortnite partnership set the bar for future ideas. Here’s our dream scenario for the Avengers: InFortnity War.
(No, we are not sorry for that pun).
Dressed for (Infinity) War
This is the easiest one: let us play dress up as our favorite Marvel superheroes and villains. Captain America, Iron Man, Star-Lord, all of them would make for perfect costume choices. We know this is specifically Infinity War, but if Marvel wanted to go outside the box and provide alternate costumes for these characters or even other Marvel characters (like the X-Men) we’d be all for it. Yes it would be strange seeing an enemy dressed as Doctor Strange firing a shotgun at us, but we’d love every second of it.
Infinity War's Best Powers In Our Hands
If we’re going to dress up like our favorite characters, we may as well be able to fight like them too. I’m not saying we should be all-powerful like Thanos and be able to manipulate time and space, but throwing Captain America’s shield or shooting some Iron Man Repulsor Blasts out of our hands would be sweet. Heck, how about a jar of gamma-radiated Slurp Juice to give us temporary Hulk powers, allowing us to bust down any structures we see? Speaking of Slurp Juice, the best way to implement these abilities would be…
Epic Loot Drops Worthy of an Infinity War
Epic loot drops with the iconic weapons and armor of our favorite heroes seems like an absolute no-brainer. Who wouldn’t be jacked to find a super cool weapon like Star-Lord’s blaster or something out of Rocket Raccoon’s arsenal waiting for them in a chest? Obviously we can’t give players these abilities before hitting the island, so why not put them in drops scattered across the map? Fortnite is built on its random nature, so putting these Marvel items in the mix just ups the ante and the fun factor.
Fortnite's Infinity Challenges
Fortnite’s challenges are possibly the most underrated aspect of the game, completing small missions while duking it out against 99 other players, so a few Marvel-themed challenges would be great. Here’s an idea: hide each of the Infinity Stones and the Infinity Gauntlet around the map. Each item gives a certain boost, but getting all six items together not only completes the challenge but gives the players a temporary god-like status, making these items very much worth the risk of finding them. The current "find the gauntlet, become Thanos" seems too easy to wield that sort of power. After all, putting the Infinity Gauntlet together shouldn’t be as easy as snapping our fingers...
The Mad Titan Appears to Wage Infinity War
This one is the most game changing of them all, but it would create a fantastic new dynamic for the Fortnite experience. Imagine playing a normal match when suddenly the Mad Titan Thanos appears in his ship and starts laying waste to the island. Every player must band together, enemies immediately becoming friends, in order to take him down. Once his life is depleted the players responsible can then fight over the insane loot the all-powerful one drops and the game continues. We know the Infinity Gauntlet will transform one player into Thanos, but tell us that doesn’t sound like the best use of this idea. Pulling scenarios like Random Thanos in this collaboration would set a high standard for future Fortnite partnerships. Let’ see what Marvel and Epic can do come tomorrow.
