The premier RPG speedrunning marathon event has kicked off to a strong start. RPG Limit Break has already raised over $30K for NAMI over speedrunning oldies like Breath of Fire and newer RPGs like Final Fantasy XV.

While going through the major speedgames, RPGs rarely show up on the list. Pokemon has a tendency to pop up and if we want to get technical, The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past has an RPG feel to it, but for the most part RPGs are usually much longer and can cause problems in early titles with randomized elements. However, standing in complete contradiction to that statement is RPG Limit Break, a speedrun marathon that highlights these players in an effort to raise money for a good cause.

The action started on May 13th and already, just a couple days later, they have raised over $30k for NAMI: National Alliance on Mental Illness. Taking place in Salt Lake City, Utah, RPG Limit Break has a similar foundation as Games Done Quick or Calithon or Game Over Cancer. People gather at the event to play their games over Twitch to showcase a game, complete with donation incentives, inside jokes, and doing good for the world.

For those that are used to seeing speedrunning on platformers or first-person shooters, this might be something entirely new and exciting. RPG speedruns vary from game to game like anything else, but they can be quick like what we saw in an Earthbound run with Uko. Either way, there are sure to be some amazing moments. We can’t wait to see what is done in Kingdom Hearts II Final Mix HD All Worlds by TehRizzle or West Of Loathing Any% by Raelcun.

For all things RPG Limit Break, check out their Twitch stream and their Twitter for up to date happenings. You can also check the RPG Limit Break website to see an updating count of donations, as well as previous runs and a schedule of upcoming runs. The speedruns won’t be stopping until Saturday May 19th, so be sure to tune in frequently to support the cause.
