Deadpool 2 is out in theaters, making for an excellent reason to look into Deadpool's video game appearances and what speedrunners have done in those games.

While there hasn’t really been a monumental video game for the merc with a mouth, Deadpool has been in a few games worth checking out for those eager to spend more time with the anti-hero. With the success of Deadpool in films, maybe a new studio will get a chance to really show off the video game potential of the character, but until then here are some speedruns we’ve found throughout the web that involve him.

X-Men Legends II: Rise of Apocalypse (Gamecube, PS2, PS3, PSP, Xbox, PC, Wii)

Deadpool was an unlockable character in X-Men Legends 2. He's also used through the speedrun a lot.

X-Men Legends did something surprising when it was released; it took the multitude of characters in the X-Men universe and put them into a Diablo-esque action RPG. The depth was surprising, the characters were fun to play as, and it went to on inspire other similar games in the Marvel universe. X-Men Legends II was more of what made the first game good.

As a speedrun, there are certainly some interesting components, mostly with all of the characters. Knowing which ones to use at which times, realizing when to fight and when to ignore enemies, and of course knowing the fastest paths to take on each map is what makes this as a speedgame one worth checking out for those looking for something different. Runs have already come under an hour and a half.

One of the top runners is Smelly McTroll, who runs a lot of X-Men games.

Deadpool (Xbox 360, PS4, PC)

The Deadpool game was a weird one. . .
The actual Deadpool game was a weird one. . .

Alright, so the Deadpool game wasn’t nearly as good as what players were hoping for, but there were some laughs to be had throughout this weird action title. Deadpool cracks jokes all over the place, there is some basic hack-and-slash gameplay, and just being Deadpool is hard not to smile at. There is even a top-down Legend of Zelda section.

As a speedrun, it’s a little better. Some of the top runs have it below an hour and fifteen minutes and it appears that there are some clever precision jumps involved, much like what we’ve seen in some of the God of War speedruns. Champloo is definitely one of the masters of this strange speedrun.

It’s what we imagine a fever dream would feel like after just seeing Deadpool 2, playing like four different games, and then passing out.

Spider-Man: Shattered Dimensions (PS3, Xbox 360, PC, Wii)

Deadpool was quite the adversary in Shattered Dimensions.

There have been a few Spider-Man games through the years that were just excellent and we can only hope that Insomniac find success with their take on the webslinger soon. Spider-Man: Shattered Dimensions was a title that tried to play around with four different Spider-Man types to break up the gameplay and at one point Ultimate Deadpool appears as a boss.

Because of swing mechanics, some of the Spider-Man games can make for a really wild speedrun experience. Shattered Dimensions has a ton of bosses to take down, so it’s more combat-oriented than other games, but it’s cool watch someone own each classic villain in quick fashion.

Spidybawlz is our runner for this one, coming in at just above three hours and twenty minutes.

Marvel Powers United VR (Oculus Rift, Upcoming)

Why play as Deadpool when you can be Deadpool?
Why play as Deadpool when you can be Deadpool?

This one is a bit of speculation, but worth keeping an eye on nonetheless if chatting with a speedrunner of Job Simulator is anything to go by. Sure the Deadpool game let players be Deadpool, but Deadpool will also be playable in this VR title, putting players directly in control of the little maniac.

Again, will it make for a good speedgame? That’s up to players really. Although, there may also be score chasing potential. Either way, being able to become Deadpool is surely to be a dream for many out there.
