All the details you need to know to maximize your Mario Tennis action as the beta hits the Nintendo Switch this weekend.

The latest edition of the Mario Tennis franchise is almost here, but before we reach the main event we’ve got a small taste of the action coming this weekend. This weekend will be the only chance to get a taste of the action for now, so knowing exactly how long you have to hit the court is imperative. You can start downloading the game now to get a head start when the beta does open however, so let’s get cracking and figure out how long we have.

As outlined above, there’s only a short time to play the game so getting started early is important. The beta itself consists of offline play against AI opponents, as well as an online tournament. It’s possible to unlock Mario’s classic outfit in the full version of the game by playing the beta, so start swinging.

To start with, there are four characters to choose from: Mario, Bowser, Peach, and Yoshi. Playing the game will grant points that can be used to unlock hidden characters. While we don’t have official confirmation on which characters can be unlocked early, datamining the beta download has shown that Chain Chomp, Toad, Rosalina, Waluigi, Drybones and Spike are all packaged in, so keep an eye out for them to appear. If you just can’t wait for the weekend to see how the game plays, check out Jimmy Fallon giving a demonstration, here.
