Gotta catch 'em all! Pokemon Let's Go! Pikachu and Pokemon Let's Go! Eevee were just announced by The Pokemon Company and Game Freak. Check out the details!

As we recently reported on, the rumors of a pair of Pokemon games, Pokemon Let's Go! Pikachu and Pokemon Let's Go! Eevee turned out to be true. They also turned out to be much more than we could imagine. The Pokemon Company held a press conference in Japan today and announced multiple games, including these and another game called Pokemon Quest.

Pokemon Quest is a "free to start" mobile and Nintendo Switch game coming straight from Game Freak, the developers responsible for the core Pokemon games. It features a voxel style, not unlike games like Minecraft, which they call "Pokecells". It can be played on the mobile phones, handheld mode of the Switch, and even fully on the TV.

Let's Go Is The Yellow remake we wished for

But, the main course was the announcement of the long rumored Let's Go! series. Breaking down details, it's clear these are meant to be remakes of Pokemon: Special Pikachu Edition, otherwise known as Yellow Edition. In Japan, Yellow was simply titled "Pocket Monsters: Pikachu", making this naming scheme apparent. As such, this game takes place in the Kanto region that took place in the original Red, Blue, and Yellow versions, as well as Gold and Silver after beating the Elite Four.

But, this game isn't your average everyday core Pokemon game. Fans of the mobile game Pokemon Go will be glad to hear that the game plays like the popular mobile sensation. Judging from the footage shown in the trailer, Pokemon catching looks nearly identical to the catching screen in Pokemon Go minus some changes to help make it easier to utilize on the Switch. The entire game can be played one-handed with a single Joy-Con controller, which allows a second player to drop in at any time during play and even help with battles and catching Pokemon.

The overworld is modeled after Kanto, but grassy areas show Pokemon in a similar way to Pokemon Go. It's unknown if Pokemon also show up hidden in grass the same way as the usual core games as well, but the trailer does show visible sprites above the grass. In addition, the game's starting pokemon, Pikachu or Eevee hangs out outside their pokeball, just like in the original game. Pikachu rides on the protagonist's back and shoulder while Eevee rides on top of their head in the overworld. They are also customizable with clothing and costumes not unlike later Pokemon games that allow a special Pikachu to dress up. Who doesn't want a luchador Pikachu?

Let's Go! takes the "GO" comparisons head-on

The "Buddy" system from Pokemon Go returns as well, with a Pikachu shown riding on the male protagonist and an Electrode following (rolling?) behind him, while the female protagonist has a full size Gengar trailing behind her at the same time on screen during a two player game.

Additionally, there's a Pokeball accessory that acts very similar to the Pokemon Go Plus armband that came out for the mobile game. The Pokeball allows players to catch a Pokemon with the press of a button and hand motion of throwing. No word on if the Plus works with the game as of yet, but Pokemon seem to be able to be stored within the Pokeball and make noises and movements at times.

Aside from the Pokeball, the game allows transfering from Pokemon Go on mobile to drop Pokemon you catch into the GO PARK, not unlike the Pal Park of previous entries, where players have to recatch the Pokemon for it to show up in game. On the opposite direction, Pokemon caught in Let's Go that are being transfered to the mobile game seems to be possible but not shown. But, the feature may offer special "presents", possibly presented like the core games' "Mystery Gift" feature.

The game is set to release November 16, 2018 in Japan, but a US or EU date have not been announced.

Additional details are being released slowly as this was the Japanese reveal, and we will update this article if any come as the English version of details are presented. In the mean time, Pokemon Go has officially dropped the Alolan Exaggutor into the game to hype the Let's Go reveal!
