Fortnite has launched on the Nintendo Switch, but it seems that there are issues arising with linking accounts that are originally linked to PlayStation.

The release of Fortnite on the Nintendo Switch was a poorly kept secret, as leaks and rumors abound throughout this year’s E3 convention. With the revelation during the Nintendo Direct presentation that Fortnite would be available to play on the Nintendo Switch today, many fans were eager to try out the game on the popular portable platform. Unfortunately for some, it seems that linking accounts to the Nintendo Switch is proving to be a difficult task for some.

Greg Miller from kindafunny.com had some choice words for Sony after encountering an unusual error when attempting to link his existing account to the new platform. The tweet, which reads “.@PlayStation, fix this. Not allowing me to sign-in to Fortnite Switch with my Epic account because it's linked to PS4 is tone deaf and points more to fear than market dominance. It does the opposite of what you want -- it makes me think about moving to Xbox for Fortnite.” Points to a problem that some had predicted would arise with the news that crossplay would be implemented into the game.

Epic Games PR representative Nick Chester confirmed on Twitter that Fortnite on the Nintendo Switch would be compatible with the Xbox One, PC, Mac, and mobile versions of the game, leaving PlayStation 4 players out of the picture for now.

This is unfortunate news for fans of the game, as progression is tied to the account, meaning that any skins and other cosmetics earned would not be transferable to the Nintendo Switch if they have already linked to PlayStation. As of now, neither Sony nor Epic Games have commented on ways to solve this problem, leaving fans with the unlucky task of potentially making multiple accounts as the only solution for now.

Update: It seems that at least one major company is willing to comment on the situation, with XboxUK feeling comfortable enough to poke fun at the situation.
