An exciting and fast paced series saw the GG BoyZ claim victory over the BackSquids in the Splatoon 2 World Championship Finals at E3 2018.

The highly anticipated Splatoon 2 World Championship Finals were set to kick off between the GG BoyZ and the BackSquids in a best-of-seven showdown today. The matches were fast, fun, and super messy as these two teams battled for control over several different game modes. Here’s a brief breakdown of the series.

The first map was splat zones, and opened with the BackSquids taking an early lead after taking down several of the GG BoyZ and claiming the zone early. The GG BoyZ were quick to respond however, using the stingray to gain zone control. BackSquids fired back hard once more to retake the zone, however the GG BoyZ used a lot of flank attacks to retake the zone and establish a control area. The zone continued to trade back and forth as both teams claimed multiple takedowns, though in the end it was the GG BoyZ who claimed the first map.

The second map was tower control, with the GG BoyZ trying to move the tower early after applying pressure. BackSquids were able to gain control of the tower after utilizing excellent team play and move it for a time, before being stopped by the GG BoyZ. After more skirmishing, the BackSquids were able to again start moving the tower, before being stopped by the GG BoyZ. The BackSquids were able to claim the first point of the game, before the GG BoyZ reclaimed the tower and threatened to claim a point of their own. Control of the tower went back and forth with little time remaining for the teams to gain an advantage. After keeping the tower under contest for the remainder of the match, the BackSquids were able to claim the second map in this series.

The third map was Clam Blitz, with the series tied up at 1-1. Both teams traded splats while looking to collect the clams, with the GG BoyZ claiming the first power clam to get on the board early. The BackSquids managed their clams well, able to put up three power clams in a row to gain the lead in this match. The GG BoyZ were able to respond after gathering their power, making a coordinated assault to retake the lead. After more skirmishes, the GG BoyZ were able to finish the job and claim the third map in this series.

The fourth map was rainmaker, with the GG BoyZ taking an early lead after gaining control of the rainmaker. It took a while for the BackSquids to stop the advance, narrowly protecting their base. The BackSquids maintained a strong defense, but seemed unable to go on the offence due to the pressure from the GG BoyZ. The BackSquids were able to get the rainmaker almost to the base of GG BoyZ before being stopped, but a renewed assault allowed them to close out the match to tie up the series.

The fifth map was splat zones, with both teams now battling to regain a lead. The BackSquids gained a huge lead early on with the first zone, climbing to a 50 point lead. The GG BoyZ managed to reclaim the zone and start accumulating points of their own, quickly taking the lead as they controlled the map. The BackSquids narrowly managed to stop the GG BoyZ and retake the zone before putting their own points up once again. The GG BoyZ once again claimed the point and managed to keep the BackSquids back long enough to close out the match with a win.

The sixth map was game point for the GG BoyZ, and would be tower control once again. The GG BoyZ claimed the tower first and started its progression, moving past the first checkpoint before approaching the second with little resistance from the BackSquids. In what was the fastest map of the series, the GG BoyZ were able to pick up the win and claim the crown as the Splatoon 2 World Champions. For more Nintendo action from E3, check out the revelations about the upcoming game Pokémon Lets Go Pikachu and Eevee bundles, here.
