Shacknews starting Day 2 of their inaugural step into competitive gaming action at E3 2018 with the Shacknews World Championship, and the Round of 16 kicks off very soon with Halo 2 as players compete for $50,000

We announced a few weeks ago that video game media outlet Shacknews is getting in on the competitive gaming action at E3 this year, but their tournament isn’t quite so traditional. Seven games are being played by 128 entrants, and the event is down to the final 16. It kicks off at 2pm EDT, and the game being played is Halo 2 in the round of 16. Duke Nukem 3D will follow in the quarter finals, followed by GoldenEye 007 in the semis and Quake in the Grand Final. Check it out on the stream below.

$50,000 is on the line, with $30,000 going to the First Place Winner, followed by $15,000 for Second and $5,000 for Third. Shacknews is keeping the authenticity alive too, as GoldenEye 007 will be played on CRT TVs in the semi-finals. Ex-pro Quake player Johnathan ‘Fatal1ty’ Wendel may also be stopping by later on in the stream, which will be a blast to the past for the esports veterans out there. Interestingly, this is also the inaugural event for the Shack Champions League, which is exclusively for gamers and competitors over the age of 30.

The Shacknews World Championship isn’t the only esports event at E3 this year either. The ESL Arena has some happenings going on, and we’ve already seen the Fortnite Pro-Am, Smash Bros. Invitational, and Splatoon 2 World Championship take place.
