Yea, we know it's unlikely that Marvel vs. Capcom Infinite would get a re-release. But, Capcom has done things like this in the past. For now, here's the rumor of an Uncanny Edition being shown at EVO in August.

A new rumor has sprung up for the fighting game community saying that a new version of Marvel Vs Capcom Infinite is on its way, subtitled Uncanny Edition. While this is plausible, before we begin, we must insist that this is just a rumor and should be taken as such and is just not probable.

So, this rumor starts by saying that 75% of the development control of the “stand alone” game, Marvel Vs Capcom Infinite: Uncanny Edition, goes to Capcom for this re-release, giving creative control over art, graphics, music, and the roster. Apparently the reasoning, according to the anonymous post on imgur, is that Marvel wanted to push the brand some for the upcoming Avengers 4 sequel in 2019, making the game a Q1 game. The game will have “significant revisions” in comparison to the original game.

As for the roster, supposedly Capcom wants more X-Men in the game, which doesn’t exactly jive with the earlier part saying it’s an Avengers 4 tie-in (unless Disney and FOX aren’t telling us something about the upcoming movie and their newly christened buy-out). But, according to the leak, Wolverine, Magneto, Dr. Doom, Deadpool, Gambit, Psylocke, Sentinel, Storm, Shuma-Gorath, Cable, Doc Ock, Super Skrull, and Juggernaut are all being added for the Marvel side. For Capcom’s side, Akuma, Ruby Heart, Amingo, Jill (MVC2 version), Vergil, Wesker, Leon, Jin, Captain Commando, Gene, Felicia, Asure, Viewtiful Joe, and Amaterasu are joining the fight.

The rumor states that the game is planned to be announced during EVO 2018 in August after the SFV Grand Finals, showing the reveal of G, Viper, and Sodom are playable in the game (or does the rumor mean playable in SFV?), as well. This would raise the amount of Capcom characters dramatically in comparison to their Marvel counterparts. As Marvel Vs Capcom Infinite isn’t even on the game list for EVO this year,

Let us not all forget that this sounds nearly identical to the rumors in 2012 about Marvel Vs. Capcom 3. Back in July 2012, Ultimate Marvel Vs Capcom 3: Uncanny Edition (sound familiar?) was rumored to be announced during EVO 2012 (also, sound familiar?). That version wasn’t nearly as ambitious as this time around, with that rumor being that it was be a $15 USD digital download DLC for Ultimate Marvel Vs Capcom 3. It would have included new moves, new outfits, some unexplained PS Vita “features”. The four added characters for it would have been Mega Man, Servbot, Ant Man, and Cyclops. But, this never happened.

While this is a rumor, let us say (again) to take it with all the grains of salt, but Marvel is likely to have tie-ins to their Avengers sequel, albeit unlikely to be this one. While the original MVC:i is generally known for being a bust, a revamped edition could help pave the way for more Capcom fighting games in the future. Plus, it’s not like Capcom has never re-released a game before. We’re looking at you, Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix.
