Sony has received a lot of bad press lately due to their uncooperative nature surrounding crossplay with Fortnite and Minecraft, but they say they're working on a solution.

Since Fortnite debuted on Nintendo Switch during E3 2018, players have been outraged at the fact Epic accounts are locked to the PlayStation 4 and are unable to be played on the Switch or Xbox One. It essentially means that anyone who has played Fortnite on PS4 is unable to use the same account on another console, or play with anyone else on one of those consoles. It’s a crying shame, especially when Microsoft and Nintendo are getting along so well as they showed off in this Minecraft trailer last week.

Sony were no doubt feeling the pressure after this trailer came out from Nintendo and Microsoft.

That all may be changing soon though, as Sony dropped some hints at Gamelab in Spain today. Shawn Layden, president and CEO of Sony Interactive Entertainment and PS4 system architect Mark Cerny delivered a presentation about the legacy of PlayStation. At the end of it all, Eurogamer asked Layden about the issue and why Sony isn’t “listening to its players.”

"We're hearing it,” Layden said. “We're looking at a lot of the possibilities. You can imagine that the circumstances around that affect a lot more than just one game. I'm confident we'll get to a solution which will be understood and accepted by our gaming community, while at the same time supporting our business."

This is the first official statement anyone from Sony has given on the matter and it offers some hope to those looking to take advantage of cross-play. They’ve been under some serious fire recently - just look at the replies to any of the official PlayStation tweets and you’ll see that players aren’t letting up about the issue.

A recent survey has claimed that 69% of Fortnite users spend money on the game with an average spend of $85, so clearly the lack of crossplay isn’t affecting the game too much. In other Fortnite news, PUBG Corp have dropped their South Korean lawsuit against Epic Games.
