The World Cup fervor has reached the Arena of Valor, as the popular mobile game has a brand new soccer-themed event starting today.

As the Arena of Valor Elite Closed Beta begins on Nintendo Switch, developer Tencent is giving its mobile fanbase something new as well in the form of a brand new, limited time game mode.

The Arena of Valor “Football Fever” mode changes the format from a standard MOBA game to a duel in the most popular sport in the world. Instead of destroying towers and killing minions, players will instead take to the pitch in a three-on-three soccer match where attacking the ball sends it toward the goal.

A few of the heroes are getting exclusive skins themed around World Cup uniforms, including Valhein, Murad, Xeniel, and Tulen, whose French-inspired kit can be earned free by completing a checklist of actions during the event..

Players can access the mode through the Casual Match menu on the main title screen, and here’s a brief look from YouTuber Kurohiko:

The limited time mode will end on July 29, two weeks after the end of the real life World Cup in Russia.

As bizarre as it is to see Arena of Valor’s heroes — including the guests from DC Comics — playing soccer with their attacks, we can appreciate when games try to switch things up a bit. This new mode looks like quick and easy fun, so make sure to give it a try before it goes away for good at the end of July.
