"How much are you willing to sacrifice your life for power? All your spells will cost health instead of mana!"

Each week, Tavern Brawl changes up the core mechanics of Hearthstone to create something wacky, sometimes it’s wonderful and other times it’s not. This week sees a returning brawl from February 2017; Blood Magic. The brawl takes the effect from Warlock legendary Cho’Gall and turns it into a fully fledged mode. That means that every spell you cast costs you your life instead of your mana, but you won’t be able to cast any spells that would kill you, so try to keep your life total above 10.

Players need to create a standard 30-card deck from any of the nine classes, but playstyles will alter dramatically. All of a sudden Mages can play two Pyroblasts on turn one, or Druid can gain a serious lead with two Ultimate Infestations. Hunter could even have some serious sticking power by dropping two Call of the Wilds, granting 10 damage on the first turn followed by an exact 30-damage turn on turn two. For Rogue, both Shadowblade and Evasion make you immune for a turn so consider implementing them to cast an unlimited amount of spells on one turn. It’s standard only unfortunately, so you can’t utilise cards like Violet Illusionist which dominated the Tavern Brawl meta last time this brawl rolled around.

This brawl is definitely a fan favorite - it’s a simple change but one that shakes up the meta considerably. In other Hearthstone news, you can see the latest changes coming to the game soon, and click here to find out who emerged victorious during the HCT Summer Championship last weekend.
