From July 13 to July 20, Articuno will spawn frequently along with its legendary bird bretheren! We'll tell you exactly how to smash the legendary bird so you can bring it home this weekend!

Articuno returns with Zapdos and Moltres from September 13 - 20 as rewards for completing Professor Willow's Special Research! Articuno spawns with 37603CP and can be caught at 1599-1676CP (Normal) and 1999-2095CP (Weather Boosted with Snow or Windy conditions.) Here's the best set of counters to bring down the Freeze Pokemon and make it your own.

Articuno Best Raid Counters

Tyranitar

You smell what the Rock is cooking? Hopefully you loaded up on Tyranitars last Community Day, because the Tyrant is the absolute best Pokemon to defeat Articuno with. Make sure your T-Tar is equipped with Smack Down (the exclusive move from last month’s Community Day) and Stone Edge in order to maximize the damage you’ll deal to Articuno.

Omastar

Lord Helix be praised! If you don’t have a Tyranitar, Omastar is the next best option. Its natural resilience coupled with moves like Rock Throw, Rock Slide, or Rock Blast will help defeat Articuno quickly.

Golem

Longtime Pokemon Go players will no doubt have a Golem or two in their stable, and he’s still a great option to bring for the Articuno raid. It should be obvious, but make sure your Golem has Rock-type moves as Ground-type ones won’t be very helpful. Rock Throw & Stone Edge are your ideal pairing.

Charizard

Ideally, you’ll want to bring a Fire Spin/Blast Burn Charizard from Community Day. But even if your ‘Zard has another Fire-type Charge Move, you should be okay.

Entei

A Fire Spin/Overheat Entei is an obvious choice to bring to an Ice-type raid. He’s also sturdier than most Fire-types, increasing your odds of successfully completing the raid.

Flareon

If worst comes to worst, you can always rely on the old Fire-type standby, Flareon. Fire Spin with Overheat or Flamethrower are your preferred moves here.

If you’re lacking any or all of the above types, focus on type advantages. Bring your strongest Rock, Fire, Steel, or Electric-types to do battle against Articuno.

Weather Conditions

Articuno will be boosted under Snowy and Windy conditions. American players shouldn’t worry about the former, but the latter is a distinct possibility. Hopefully, though, trainers will battle Articuno under Sunny, Partly Cloudy, or even Rainy conditions to receive a weather bonus.

Should You Solo It?

Don’t. Bring at least 4 other friends with you to try and defeat Articuno. If need be, join up with a local Pokemon Go group on Facebook or Discord to assure yourself one of the legendary birds.

Yes, It Comes In Shiny

Like other special events, there’s a chance Articuno can appear as a shiny. Should you be so lucky to find a shiny Articuno, you’ll be treated to the lighter blue as seen above, more in line with its Ice-type designation.

There's a 1 in 20 chance Trainers will encounter a Shiny Articuno, but fear not! Should you find one, there is a 100 percent capture rate on these incredibly rare creatures.
