Not one, but two teams will represent Gen.G at the 2018 PUBG Global Invitational later this month thanks to a one/two finish at a recent PUBG event in Korea.

The PLAYERUNKNOWN’S Battlegrounds Global Invitational is approaching, with esports team from all reaches of the world vying for a spot to complete for the world’s largest chicken dinner. Gen.G is so excited, in fact, that they’re sending two separate teams thanks to recent qualifiers in South Korea.

Gold and Gen.G Black both qualified for the Global Invitational by finishing first and second at the 2018 1H PUBG Korea League (PKL) tournament in Seoul, with Gold scoring 12,080 points and Black tallying 8,820. This makes Gen.G one of the first teams ever to send two separate squads to a competitive PUBG event.

"This is a great start for us. Both of our PUBG teams maintained a top ranking in the inaugural PUBG league and were ultimately able to punch our tickets to Berlin. We are so proud of both our teams for their hard work and perseverance,” Gen.G’s Chief Growth Office Arnold hur said in the press release. “We look forward to the opportunity to compete against some of the world’s best teams at the PUBG Global Invitational.”

The PUBG Global Invitational is set to kick off on July 25, with one tournament for first-person gameplay and a separate tournament for third-person. The event will culminate in the Grand Finals on July 29, with the winning teams of both tournaments taking home $400,000 each.

Other qualifying teams include Ghost Gaming and Team Gates who qualified in North America, Team Liquid and the Pittsburgh Knights who qualified in Europe, and Crest Gaming, who is also sending two teams after Xanadu and Windfall qualified in Japan.

With the PUBG Global Invitational kicking off soon and Fortnite finally getting into the competitive scene, battle royale games are looking to make a big splash in esports very soon. The H1Z1 Pro League has shown the format can work, but we’re interested to see where the future of esports royale is headed next.
