A Climactic Finish for Week 4 of the EU LCS

The games of Week 4 have finished with a bang. With some of the closest games we've seen thus far, the European League of Legends Championship Series proves that nothing is ever really certain.

Vitality – Splyce

Our first match of the day pits the current top of the leaderboards, Vitality, against middle of the pack Splyce. While some may have predicted this would be a close game, Vitality seemed out to prove that they are 100% deserving of being called the best in EU. Securing an early gold advantage, Vitality made all the moves in this game, going as far as to trade their own lives in order to secure map objectives. Unfortunately for Splyce, kills were all they were able to secure, being pushed out of every map objective by a rampant Vitality squad out for blood. Another team down for Vitality, and they look poised to cement their place atop the ladder.

H2K – FC Schalke 04

Game number two and the cracks are showing for H2K’s new line-up. Despite promising improvement with their roster shuffle, H2K seemed lacking in every area of the game, managing to secure only a small handful of objectives and only a single kill against the Schalke squad. With Schalke top laner Tamás "Vizicsacsi" Kiss running riot all over H2K, and AD Carry Elias "Upset" Lipp being allowed to freely attack the enemy without being contested, Schalke looked incredibly dominant this game. Schalke now sit firmly in the middle of the pack, and if their future games look similar to this, they seem likely to climb higher.

Roccat – Misfits

Halfway through the day, Roccat came the closest we’ve seen to a perfect game in a very long time. We’ve had so many games these past few weeks that seem to come extremely close to being perfect, with teams only dropping a couple of kills, or a couple of turrets, but Roccat managed to come the closest today, shutting out Misfits and preventing them from getting almost everything. Misfits attempted to rally early on, trading a turret for the Rift Herald, but Roccat were able to shut them out with ease, preventing them from obtaining anything else for the entire rest of the game. With their first deathless game in the history of the organization, Roccat look ready to take on the rest of the EU LCS and prove they they deserve a spot at the top.

Fnatic – Giants

A back and forth game that quickly turned into something much worse for Giants, Fnatic managed to showcase both individual strengths as well as team play in their victory today. While the early and mid-game seemed like it could have been extremely close, Fnatic was able to put on the afterburners as the game began to transition into late game, extending their gold advantage before two crucial team fights allowed them to secure the necessary objectives and push Giants back into their base. Once the siege began, there was nothing Giants could do but watch as Fnatic cleaned house and walked away with the win.

G2 – Unicorns of Love

Our last game of the weekend was an extremely close one between G2 and the Unicorns of Love. A tight game the whole way, G2 seemed quite shaky, barely managing to keep up with UoL as they moved around the map. G2 seemed like they would need a miracle in order to pull out the win, and AD Carry Petter “Hjarnan” Freyschuss was determined to give them one, managing to steal the Baron Buff away from UoL with his Ezreal Ultimate from across the map. This power boost allowed G2 to make their own moves, and quickly evened up the game. The Unicorns never really recovered from this, falling in fight after fight before G2 was able to push into their base and end the game.
