The popular mobile game has added a variant to the regular Pokémon in the game to incentivize trading between trainers.

A new kind of Pokémon has been added to Pokémon Go, and you probably already have some without even realizing it. Lucky Pokémon have been added to the game with the recent update, though you won’t be able to tell right away. with the recent addition of trading to the game, Niantic has revealed that there are new benefits to swapping Pokémon with your friends in addition to filling out your Pokédex.

Pokémon can now gain the Lucky trait when they are traded, meaning that they require less Stardust in order to power up to their full potential. Additionally, Lucky Pokémon can be tracked by the Pokédex, allowing players to keep track of the Pokémon that have gained the Lucky feat.

“The longer the Pokémon spends inside a Trainer’s Pokémon storage, the higher the chance of them becoming Lucky Pokémon when they are traded. Whether or not being in storage causes Pokémon to become Lucky Pokémon remains a mystery but be sure to stay posted for more results from the professor’s research.”

Also added in the update are XP rewards for sending gifts, and the gifts themselves can have a chance at containing Stardust.
