It’s taken a while, but we finally know some information about the League of Legends World Championship 2018. Riot confirmed back in February that the event would take place in South Korea, but it’s taken till now for them to release any other details. According to Derrick Asiedu, Riot’s global events lead, it’s because their venue choice for the finals fell through at the last minute.
All seems to be sorted now though as the play-in stage kicks off on October 1st in Seoul, before the group stages begin in Busan on October 10th. Busan will then hold the quarter-finals too, before teams travel to Gwangju on October 27th for the semi-finals. The grand finals will be held a week later, allowing teams to have some time off in Incheon.
In an FAQ at the bottom of the official announcement post, Riot have explained that the reason the tournament seems shorter than previous years is because they want to minimise the time the teams spend on the road. The number of matches played will remain the same, but it’s been condensed into less days.
Elsewhere in MOBA news, a DotA 2 patch has landed right before The International 8, and you can read a recap of Week 6 Day 2 of the NA LCS here.
