The Twin Galaxies Fight Club is set to showcase explosive action from a wide variety of FGC titles. We’ve seen some of the fighters take the stage at EVO 2018 already, but here is another opportunity to see some of the top players from their respective titles doing battle. Here are the matches from the TGFC.

Abraham “GoldenboyNeo” Sotelo vs. Desmond “Xecutioner” Pinkney (Marvel vs. Capcom 2: New Age of Heroes)
The first match on the bracket was a showdown between GoldenboyNeo and Xecutioner, doing battle in Marvel vs. Capcom 2. Despite the hype beforehand, ultimately GoldenboyNeo did not struggle in his bout, taking the series 5-1. His words post-match were an equal mix of praise and light banter, informing the crowd that it was 5-1 because he wanted to make it interesting, but at the same time offering his opponent a rematch in the future.
Adam “Armada” Lindgren vs. Joseph “Mang0” Marquez (Super Smash Bros. Melee)
The second clash would be between two “Melee Gods”, as Armada took on Mang0 in a show match that many were excited to see. While Mang0 put up a valiant effort, it seemed that at least in this clash, Armada had the upper hand as he took the series 3-1.
Ryan “Filipino Champ” Ramirez vs. Christopher “NYChrisG” Gonzalez (Marvel vs. Capcom 3: Fate of Two Worlds)
The third match on the bracket saw Filipino Champ taking on NYChrisG in some good old-fashioned Marvel vs. Capcom 3 action. Both players fought hard trading sets back and forth as they sought to claim the victory. Neither player could pull too far away from the other, though NYChrisG reached match point first. With a final round, NYChrisG was able to claim the win and take down Filipino Champ.
Alex Valle vs. John Choi (Street Fighter II Turbo: Hyper Fighting, Street Fighter Alpha 2, Street Fighter Alpha 3)
The fourth match of the day would see two legends from the FGC show that they can still mix it up with the new generation. John Choi took the first match, winning in Street Fighter Alpha 2, 3-0. The second clash would come in Street Fighter Alpha 3, where Alex Valle managed to claim victory 3-2. Both players would find their final clash in Street Fighter 2 Turbo: Hyper Fighting, where Alex Valle managed to claim victory 3-1, to win the overall series 2-1 and prove that he still has the gift.
Justin Wong vs. Sanford Kelly vs. Michael “YipeS” Mendoza (Marvel vs. Capcom 2: New Age of Heroes)
The fifth bout would be a triple-threat brawl, first to 7 with the winner of each bout staying in place, with Justin Wong, Sanford Kelly, and Michael “YipeS” Mendoza redoing some of their devastating matches from the past. The first match would see Justin Wong taking on YipeS, with Wong taking the first win. The second quick bout would see Wong taking on Sanford, with Sanford claiming victory. The third bout would see Sanford taking on YipeS to complete the first round of the triple threat match, with YipeS picking up the win to keep the scores completely level. The rematch between YipeS and Wong would ultimately see YipeS taking a 2-1 lead overall. YipeS would then take on Sanford Kelly, and while YipeS seemed to have a handle on the match early, Sanford Kelly was able to turn it around and force YipeS to concede. Sanford would stay in place to battle Justin Wong again, with the result going in favor of Sanford. YipeS was next to step up and try to break Sanford’s momentum, finding the win to keep his hopes of winning alive. Justin Wong tagged in and managed to break YipeS streak before it could really get going. With Sanford stepping up to the plate, it took Wong just seconds for Justin to force Sanford to concede after getting caught in a combo. With that win, the scores were all tied up at 3 apiece, with more action to come.
Keeping his streak going, Justin Wong took down YipeS once again, only needing a few more bouts to claim the series. Finally, Sanford Kelly was able to break Justin Wong’s streak and catch his score before setting up for another bout with YipeS. YipeS came out of the gate swinging, and though he lost two characters quite quickly, he managed to turn the tables on Sanford Kelly and pick up the victory to level out the scores once again. Once Justin Wong tagged back in, he was quickly able to take down YipeS and gain a lead once again. Sanford stepped in once again and took down Justin Wong to catch Wong’s lead and keep his hopes alive. YipeS came to bat once again and took down Sanford to keep the scores level at 5 apiece. As the battle ran out of time, YipeS claimed victory over Justin Wong to set up match point for the match. Sanford Kelly managed to break the streak of YipeS and set up match point for himself. Unfortunately for Sanford Kelly, he was unable to take down Justin Wong, meaning that the final bout to decide the match would be between YipeS and Wong one last time. The final round was a clinic by Michael “YipeS” Mendoza as he quickly took down Justin Wong to claim victory overall, 7-6-6.
Kim “JDCR” Hyun Jin vs. Choi “Saint” Jinwoo (Tekken 7)
The next showdown would be a battle of the Fox Family, as both competitors represented Echo Fox in the Tekken 7 arena. With the two fighters practicing often with each other, this match was sure to be close. JDCR managed to take the first round, though it was extremely close for both players. Saint took the next round as he found his groove in this match. JDCR picked up the next round in a reversal of the previous round to set up match point, though Saint was able to claim the next round to keep the match level and set up match point for both players. The final round would come down to the wire, with Saint claiming victory overall, 3-2.
Hajime “Tokido” Taniguchi vs. Lee “Infiltration” Seon-woo (Street Fighter V)
The first of the two co-main events would see Tokido taking on Infiltration in a match that many had hoped to see on the grand stage at EVO 2018. These two titans of Street Fighter 5 would be clashing in a match that may not offer a big prize or trophy, but nevertheless would be given the importance that a clash between these two players deserved. Tokido claimed the first round 2-0 to give himself an early lead. The second round would also go to Tokido 2-0, as he showcased his skill in this match. Infiltration finally found his footing, taking round three 2-1. Infiltration also claimed the fourth round 2-0, to level out the score overall. Tokido picked up the next round 2-0 to gain an overall lead once again. Tokido also picked up the next round 2-0, to give him an overall lead of 4-2 in this first to 5 battle. The final round looked incredibly close, however Tokido was able to show his dominance in Street Fighter and take the series 5-2.
Dominique “SonicFox” McLean vs. Goichi “GO1” Kishida (Dragon Ball FighterZ)
The final match of the tournament would be the main event, pitting longtime rivals SonicFox and GO1 against each other in Dragon Ball FighterZ once again. While both players had tasted victory over their opponents in the past, in the FGC you need to constantly look to the next challenge. GO1 took the first game, though the battle was close for both players. The second round went again to GO1 after surviving a punishing round that saw him climb back with a sliver of health. GO1 took the third round in this first to 5 series after yet another close battle, though SonicFox picked up the fourth bout to get himself on the board. GO1 was quick to get back on track, picking up the next round to set up match point in this series, and after another tough bout, managed to claim the final battle and the overall series 5-1.
With the battle between the DBFZ fighters now finished, the Twin Galaxies Fight Club concluded for its first year. It might have been a long day for some, however the caliber of matches proved that the event was worth sticking around for.
