Time to take to the skies once more as another entry in the storied Ace Combat series, Skies Unknown, gets ready to take flight. Bandai Namco has shown off the latest trailer at Gamescom 2018.

One of the most popular flight games out there, Ace Combat, is back! Hot off the heels of their SoulCalibur 6 news, Bandai Namco dropped a new trailer for their highly anticipated flight combat game Ace Combat 7: Skies Unknown.

For those of you keeping score at home, Ace Combat was last seen on the PS3 in the form of a free-to-play title, Ace Combat Infinity. Ace Combat 6 was released exclusively for the Xbox 360 back in 2007. This new entry in the franchise is confirmed to be a multiplatform title, the first since 2011 for the series when Ace Combat: Assault Horizon released.

Just by looking at this trailer it’s immediately evident that this game looks drop-dead gorgeous. From the texture detail of the jets to the way explosions and environments look is absolutely breathtaking. Project Aces has clearly outdone itself with the graphics engine this time around, and the smooth frame rate in the in-engine footage here bodes well for how the game will actually play.

Ace Combat 7: Skies Unknown will take place after the events of Ace Combat 6: Fires of Liberation, and if you are unaware of Ace Combat lore at this time, you should really check out their wiki because there are some fascinatingly silly concepts and events within the Ace Combat universe and a very deep story behind it all.

Bandai Namco also says that the game will support PlayStation VR for select missions and offer a true 360-degree view of the cockpit and instruments surrounding you within the cockpit. Namco has not yet confirmed whether or not these missions will be making their way to PC based VR headsets.

The very end of the trailer shows probably the most important part, the release date. Ace Combat 7: Skies Unknown will releasing on January 18, 2019, for Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and Steam.
