NBA 2K Announces $250,000 MyTEAM Unlimited Tournament For PS4 & Xbox One

As NBA 2K gears up for another season of the official 2K League, they've just offered an invitational tournament for 32 players to take their crack at a $250,000 prize pot.

The NBA 2K League may be getting ready for the release of NBA 2K 19 and a second season of fresh teams and players, but the action isn’t stopping. A new MyTEAM Tournament has been announced and all US players on PS4 and Xbox One will have a chance at being one of 32 contestants to play for their piece of $250,000.

On September 5, 2018, NBA 2K offered a press release announcing the new tournament, called the NBA 2K19 MyTEAM Unlimited $250,000 Tournament. The tournament will take place from October 13, 2018 until February 13, 2019 and will include 32 contestants, half from Xbox One, and half from PlayStation 4. The contestants will be decided by weekly challenges, and will advance to a single elimination contest on February 2, 2016.

One finalist from PS4 and Xbox One will advance to the Championship Finals on February 13 in New York to play for the $250,000 prize, one week before the NBA All-Star Game. They will play on Xbox One, possibly giving a slight advantage to the winner of the Xbox One tournament.

The tournament will utilize the new MyTEAM Unlimited Mode. This allows 5-on-5 gameplay, and players can choose any 13 cards they possess for play throughout the tournament. Both finalists will win tickets to the NBA All-Star Weekend, including access to all the weekend’s events.

The NBA 2K League recently wrapped up its first season, with 4 additional franchises joining the league for the NBA 2K League’s Season 2. This brings its total to 21 teams that will compete in its second season, which will return with an expansion draft on September 28.

NBA 2K19's revamped MyTEAM Mode and Unlimited in particular will allow players to craft their star teams from 13 of their collected cards for 5-on-5 matchups.

The draft of the league’s first season took place in April, with many teams using their first-round draft picks to choose point guards. Each player selected in the first round received a base salary of $35,000 via a six-month contract. Players selected in the following rounds received a base salary of $32,000. The league had three tournaments at the start of its inaugural season, including “THE TIPOFF” tournament, with a grand prize of $35,000. The 76ers Gaming Club won this tournament.

The championship for the overall season went to Knicks Gaming, who beat Heat Check Gaming in two games in a best two out of three contest and winning a $300,000 prize.

With Season 2 of NBA 2K League drafting on September 28, 2018, it would appear the MyTEAM Unlimited Tournament will be a spectacle alongside its official esports counterpart running through the end of 2018 and into 2019.
