The best kind of surprise is the one you have absolutely no inkling about, and Riot Games has certainly managed to surprise the player base of League of Legends earlier today. A new trailer has popped up out of nowhere, showcasing a series of new skins that are tied to a new limited time game mode that is going to arrive in just days.

The fact that Riot was able to surprise so many people with this announcement is due to the fact that they are skipping the PBE, where new content usually sits for a time whilst players search for bugs and issues.

The game mode is called Odyssey and features the crew of the ship travelling to an alien world to battle monsters and answer the distress call sent by Ziggs. The crew will have to deal with more than just monsters however, as they are pursued by Kayn, playing the role of a mysterious assassin. The crew itself is comprised of Jinx, who seems to be the creator of the recruitment video, Malphite, playing the role of the gentle giant, and Yasuo, who is the quiet and mysterious captain. Additionally, Sona seems to be the latest recruit to the team, as the entire video is a pitch to get her to join the crew.

We haven’t got any footage of Odyssey just yet, though the event itself is set to kick this Wednesday when the latest LoL patch arrives.
