Riot Games Hires Former Uber Executive to Fix Company Culture

The developer and publisher of League of Legends is looking to make changes to their company culture in the wake of serious allegations.

Riot Games is looking to make some serious changes to their company culture and have looked to outside sources to do the heavy lifting. Frances Frei, former Uber senior vice president, will be joining the company as a senior advisor to what is being referred to as a “Culture Strike Team” and the executive management team.

“After spending time with Riot’s leadership and many others across the organization, it became clear that Riot is truly putting everything on the table and committing to evolving its culture. In my interactions with Rioters, I’ve seen extraordinary levels of engagement on these issues across the company,” wrote Frei in a blog post. “Every Rioter with whom I’ve met truly cares about inclusion, which means real change is possible. Riot isn’t interested simply in fixing problems on the surface, it has the ambition to be an industry leader and to provide a roadmap for others to follow. I share that ambition and am eager to help Riot navigate this process.”

Frei has been meeting regularly with the executive team at Riot Games for several weeks now, including Nicolo Laurent (CEO), Dylan Jadeja (CFO), Scott Gelb (COO), and Brandon Beck and Marc Merrill (co-chairman and founders of Riot Games).

Riot Games has been under fire for several weeks now regarding their workplace culture and their response to several incidents involving staff. While the company has pledged to “Do Better”, it seems there is still a lot of work for Frei and the upcoming “Culture Strike Team” to do in order to fix both the public perception of the company, and its workplace issues.
