Nintendo Golden Sun & Rhythm Heaven Trademarks Support Smash Bros Rumors

Nintendo has refreshed trademarks for the Golden Sun and Rhythm Heaven franchises, which may add weight to recent rumors regarding characters for both coming to Super Smash Bros Ultimate for the Switch.

As we get closer and closer to the release of Super Smash Bros Ultimate for the Nintendo Switch, the rumors regarding which characters will and won’t be in the game have piled up more and more. Sifting through them has been trouble, but Nintendo itself may have recently built evidence for one. Recently refreshed trademarks may mean that Golden Sun and Rhythm Heaven  characters are coming to the game.

Originally reported in a thread on ResetEra, a Twitter bot tracking filed trademarks apparently announced Nintendo filing for renewed trademarks on four of its properties. These properties included Wrecking Crew, Super Mario Sluggers, Rhythm Heaven, and Golden Sun. All trademarks were applied for on August 24, 2018.

While often times companies re-apply for trademarks simply to keep rights to those properties locked down (Nintendo especially), the new trademarks for Rhythm Heaven and Golden Sun are especially relevant to the conversation going on with Super Smash Bros Ultimate. With King K. Rool and other characters confirmed from their original rumors, pro Smash Bros player Gonzalo "ZeRo" Barrios made his opinion known that he believed heavily in main protagonist Isaac from Golden Sun being added to the roster.

Moreover, in the original 4chan rumor that guessed at K. Rool, Dark Samus, and more, one of the characters yet to be confirmed was left under the codename “Rhythm”. It may all be speculation and superstition, but Nintendo’s trademarks only continue to build upon all of the conversation buzzing around which of these characters might appear in the much anticipated new Smash Bros.

Who knows if Rhythm Heaven characters will actually make it into Smash Bros on Switch, but if they do, our bet is on Karate Joe or the wrestler seen above.

With no confirmation just yet, the September 2018 Nintendo Direct is expected to answer some burning questions about Super Smash Bros Ultimate. Will Golden Sun or Rhythm Heaven be part of that 35 minute presentation? It remains to be seen, but with these franchises brought back as such a timely moment, it’s hard to say the rumors about them don’t carry weight.
