Ghost pirate fans can rejoice. After being leaked at a recent tournament, Cervantes has been confirmed for Soulcalibur VI with a fresh new trailer showcasing his savage duel sword style.

Among the classic cast of Soulcalibur, there a few characters that it might feel like a crime for the series to go without. One of them is the original Soul Edge wielder and dead Spanish pirate Cervantes de Leon. That said, it would appear fans of the character can breathe a collective sigh and get hyped for his arrival. Bandai Namco has confirmed the inclusion of Cervantes in Soulcalibur 6 alongside a fresh new trailer.

Cervantes was formally announced on the Bandai Namco Twitter on September 12, 2018, with a trailer following soon after on the Bandai Namco YouTube channel. In the trailer, Cervantes’ duel sword style, featuring a broadsword and shortsword/pistol combination is on full display along with his ghostly powers imbued from his time as a Soul Edge wielder. It would appear Cervantes is going to be every bit as vicious and tricky as his previous incarnations and then some.

It’s worth noting that this isn’t exactly the first time we’ve heard of or seen Cervantes for Soulcalibur 6. The dread pirate was leaked alongside Raphael in a Soulcalibur 6 build shown at a preview event in Melbourne, Australia. In the build, Raphael and Cervantes were clearly shown and a few lucky players even managed to get in some matches on the two then-unannounced characters.

Despite this, the recent trailer was our first formal time seeing the new Cervantes in action and it’s a sight to behold. Besides wielding his two swords and pistol with deadly speed, Cervantes is packing all of his trademark misdirection, with teleports and diving attacks returning to his arsenal. Moreover, he seems to be packing just a few extras with his ultimate attack being a devastating flourish of his sword mastery, firearms, and undead powers all in one devastating attack.

With Cervantes confirmed and announced, we expect Raphael can’t be far behind. As we wait, be sure to check out the previous announcement of Tira as well.

Soulcaliber 6 is slated to release on October 19, 2018 for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.
