Revealed in the Nintendo Direct from earlier today, a new character joins the Super Smash Bros. Ultimate roster, Isabelle, the plucky and loveable dog assistant that debuted in Animal Crossing New Leaf. The mayoral assistant doesn’t seem like an Echo Fighter, though we really don’t have a ton of details just yet.

Isabelle has previously featured in Smash Bros. titles as an assist trophy, though now she can join her beloved mayor and take to the battlefield directly. We’d previously talked about the rumors of which characters would be joining the roster for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, and Isabelle had featured in that discussion, and fans of the Animal Crossing franchise will be happy to have another fighter joining the mix.

Fans of the Animal Crossing franchise will have enjoyed todays Nintendo Direct greatly, with Isabelle’s inclusion in Smash Bros. not the only related news. Animal Crossing will in fact be getting a new title next year, though the exact date is yet to be revealed. That said, the mere fact that while the Villager and Isabelle will be off battling with the cast of Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, Tom Nook will be hard at work making a new town for players to enjoy when they return.

Isabelle is the ninth all-new character to make their debut in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate and will be taking on fighters from across the franchises storied history. While the release date isn’t too far away now, relatively speaking, Nintendo hasn’t shown any sign of slowing down when it comes to announcing new characters to the game. Could we eventually see other characters from Animal Crossing make their way into the franchise? Maybe Tom Nook can bankrupt my enemies in ranked play.
