The 2018 season of Street Fighter 5 competition is coming to a close as competitors gear up one of the biggest prizes of the year: The Capcom Cup. Capcom Fighters has officially announced dates and venue for the final competition.

Among the pro scene of Street Fighter V, the prize all competitor chase throughout the year is undoubtedly the Capcom Cup. As all qualifying events wind down, details for the official Capcom Cup 2018 tournament have finally dropped. In mid-December, the action will be heading to Las Vegas.

The official announcement was made via the Capcom Fighters Twitter on September 14, 2018. The Capcom Cup 2018 tournament will officially take place on December 14 through the 16 of 2018. The action is set to take place at the Esports Arena at the Luxor Hotel Casino and Resort in Las Vegas, Nevada, which hosted the inaugural Twin Galaxies Fight Club during the weekend of EVO 2018.

The Capcom Cup Tournament will include 32 of the top players in the Street Fighter V pro circuit as determined by the worldwide standings on the Capcom Pro Tour website. These players will be competing for their share of a $250,000 base prize pool, plus an additional DLC prize pool. The competition will feature special guests who have not been announced just yet.

At current, some of the players nearly guaranteed in the chase for a spot include Benjamin “Problem X” Simon of Mousesports (winner of SFV at EVO 2018), Hajime “Tokido” Taniguchi of Echo Fox (2nd Place in SFV at EVO 2018), the legendary Daigo “The Beast” Umehara of CyGames Beast (10th in the official standings), and previous Capcom Cup champion Saul “MenaRD” Leonardo Mena Segundo of Rise. Meanwhile, players like Marcus “THE COOL KID93” Redmond (8th in SFV at EVO 2018) and Bruce “GamerBee” Hsiang of CyGames Beast are still hunting for the final points that can point them over the line to compete at Capcom Cup.

The Cup doesn’t come without a certain issue. Players looking to attend the Northeast Championship (NEC 19) at the Valley Forge Casino Resort in Pennsylvania will find themselves having to choose which tournament to attend. Big E Gamings NEC 19 takes place on December 14 - 16, 2018 on the exact same dates as the Capcom Cup tournament. It’s an unfortunate circumstance for those looking to attend both, but looks unlikely to change at this time.

Even so, the Capcom Cup is set to feature an s-class variety of talent and will be well worth a watch as we cheer our favorite Street Fighter V champions from around the world towards the coveted year-end prize. Stay tuned for more details on the event as they become available.
