The changing to a five player team format was one of the most discussed changes coming from the esports reveal for the 2019 season, as the professional scene for the popular first person shooter has traditionally been four versus four. However, Treyarch has designed their upcoming title to be best played with a team of five players with a wide range of specialist characters who can fill certain team roles.

Players were also most likely happy to see that the prize pool for the 2019 CWL season will be the largest in Call of Duty history with $6,000,000 being awarded over the course of the year. This prize pool beats out the money that was available to win in Call of Duty: WWII by $2,000,000.

Teams will also no longer be restricted by region locks for their rosters and could lead to the highest number of mixed region rosters that the esports scene for Call of Duty has ever seen in a season.

There will also be an amateur league created for the 2019 CWL season which will have its own set of events and prize money available for players to win with an opportunity for them to be noticed and picked up by Pro League Teams. Major changes were also made to the CWL Pro League, as there will only be one stage in 2019 with a single playoff that will lead to the CWL Pro League Finals held in arena in front of attending fans.

More information on the changes for the 2019 CWL season for Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 can be found on the official call of Duty World League website.
