Yesterday's Pokemon Go Community Day featured Chikorita, the oft-maligned Generation II starter. Trainers who successfully evolved the starter into a Meganium, its final form, received an exclusive move in the form of Frenzy Plant. But that's not why we're here - we're here for what came next.
For about a half hour following Community Day's end, Trainers saw this mysterious Pokemon start spawning at an alarming rate. This mysterious Pokemon resembles Ditto, but is silver and has a cog-shaped head. r/TheSilphRoad users have also shown our new little friend has a small red tail on its backside as well. Catching the Pokemon revealed it to be a Ditto, which is at least nice for Trainers stuck on that stage of their Mew questline.
But just what in the world are we dealing with here? We couldn't rely on Niantic, the game's developers, for comment, until series Global Marketing Lead Kento Suga posted this to Twitter:

This means this little guy's inclusion into Pokemon Go wasn't a glitch - it's the sign of some things to come. The community has started referring to our new friend as "Nutto," or "808," based on its perceived Pokedex entry. There are a compelling list of theories as to what this thing actually is:
1. Kecleon
This might just be a huge, glitchy, misunderstanding as Pokemon Go is getting ready to release Kecleon, the strange little chameleon which has been missing for quite some time. Trainers have noticed that Nutto's eye seems to resemble Kecleon's vaguely. but it doesn't account for the Ditto-shaped body or the red tail.
2. A New Ditto Form?
Trainers have also discussed the thought that this new Pokemon is related to Ditto in some way, either being a new form or even an evolution. It doesn't explain the cog and the red tail, but it does explain its body type.
3. A New Pokemon Entirely
We were promised a new Pokemon in Pokemon Let's Go, and while some thought it could've been a new Eeveelution, it may end up being whatever this is.
Whatever it is, the only choice we have is to wait and see exactly what Niantic has up their sleeve. Trainers are still seeing it around, meaning that whatever's going on is just the start of something even bigger.
Until we crack the mystery of Nutto, we still have Mewtwo to catch. Here's exactly how to defeat the king of Pokemon Red & Blue and claim one for yourself!
