As Epic Games prepares to combat hackers and scammers harder than ever in Fortnite, they've bought anti-cheat software developer Kamu to provide support and expertise.

As Fortnite has gathered vast popularity throughout the world, cheaters, hackers, scammers, and more less-savory ends of the gaming world have tried to take advantage of the action. Epic Games knows this and isn’t backing down from fighting against illicit programs deployed within their game. The company has acquired Finnish anti-cheat security firm Kamu to help keep Fortnite secure and stable.

As originally reported by GamesIndustry.Biz, the Kamu purchase by Epic Games wasn’t without precedent. Helsinki-based Kamu’s Anti-Easy Cheat is already a product that serves various games around the world. Moreover, Kamu had already been working directly with Epic Games on Fortnite for months leading up to the acquisition.

Epic CEO Tim Sweeney was enthusiastic about the move, stressing his desire to make Fortnite “fair for all players”.

"Building and launching games today is incredibly challenging, and only half the battle," said Sweeney. "Kamu's tools for managing live games help developers grow and sustain their games successfully after launch."

It’s certainly a movement for Epic that needs initiative and expertise. Recent reporting by PC Gamer revealed that scammers had targeted Fortnite players with data-stealing malware arranged through fake surveys for the game and offers of season passes and V-Bucks. Epic has worked tirelessly to fight against such malicious campaigns, but being one of the most popular games on nearly every platform certainly comes with its share of people looking to make a fast buck on the unwitting.

V-Bucks scams on Android and other platforms are a constant and plentiful scam making the rounds in the Fortnite community.

For Kamu CEO Simon Allaeys, it’s a dream come true to be a part of Epic’s efforts in battling malicious software and players.

"Joining the Epic family is not only a childhood dream come true,” claimed Allaeys. “But a huge boost for our mission to help developers create beautiful gaming experiences. Battling cheating in games was just the start; today our products also help developers stay competitive by identifying player needs as quickly as they emerge."

Indeed, as Kamu integrates, it also offers Epic a starting point in Finland to be able to further develop new tools and technology for Fortnite and other games. It looks like it will be an extremely beneficial partnership to both sides and one that will hopefully make Fortnite remain a safe and fun experience for all players.
