Nike Signs RNG League of Legends Player Uzi to Endorsement Deal

Nike has made company history by signing its very first esports player to an endorsement deal in Uzi from the Royale Never Give Up League of Legends team.

Global sports apparel giant Nike has signed the first esports player to its brand with Royale Never Give Up (RNG) League of Legends player Jian "Uzi" Zihao. The endorsement deal that Nike has signed with Uzi will see the RNG League of Legends player featured alongside Chinese actor Bai Jingting and Los Angeles Lakers player LeBron James in order to promote Lebron Jame's new "Dribble &" campaign that will be in support of James' "Shut Up and Dribble" documentary series. 

The advertisement featuring RNG League of Legends player Uzi shows off the Bot Laner wearing a shirt with the phrase "Dribble and Carry" printed on the front. The use of the word carry looks to be Nike utilizing esports wording in order to reach fans of League of Legends and Uzi, as the RNG player is regarded as one of the best players in the world who has no doubt carried his team to victory in the past.

With the endorsement deal signing of Uzi to help promote the "Dribble &" campaign for Lebron Jame's "Shut Up and Dribble" documentary series being the first time that the company has partnered with a esports player, this historic deal could possibly be what opens up opportunities for other esports players to become Nike Athletes. 

However, with Uzi being one of the most popular esports players in the world due to his superstar status as a professional League of Legends player in China, this move by the sports apparel giant could perhaps be a one time deal in order to help promote its new campaign in the Chinese region. 

Regardless of the exact reasoning for the decision by Nike to sign RNG League of Legends player Uzi to an endorsement deal, the partnership is a major step in the development of the esports industry and could open up the flood gates to Nike and other major sport apparel companies to begin making their mark in the world of professional gaming in the near future.
