The latest Fortnite patch has changed up the meta a ton as there's two brand new weapons, zombies on the Fortnite map, new Playground options and more.

Over the last few days, Epic has been teasing the Fortnite community about the upcoming 6.20 patch. We knew it’d be coming today but as for what it contained? All we knew was the term Fortnitemares, indicating there’s some spooky Halloween content in store. Fortnitemares is finally here and it shakes up the meta a whole lot, as there’s now Fortnite zombies in battle royale, two brand new weapons including the Fortnite Six Shooter, you can now re-deploy your glider from anything over three storeys tall and more. There’s a lot to get stuck into so let us begin.

Six Shooter

The Revolver is back, baby! Well, kind of. It’s a new type of Revolver called the Six Shooter. Available in three different variants, uncommon, rare, and epic, the Six Shooter can “shoot from the hip for faster fire rate, or trade rate of fire for precision by aiming down the sight.” It takes medium ammo and deals 34/36/38 base damage respectively.

We haven’t had time to use the new gun yet so we can’t pass judgment on whether it will replace any other guns in an optimal loadout, but as long as it’s better than the original Revolver, it will almost certainly have a place in the game.

Hand Cannon

Another powerful pistol, the Hand Cannon has received a buff. A common complaint was that the gun didn’t deal enough damage at range so Epic has listened to the community. A long-range body shot will now deal 50/52 damage for the epic and legendary variant respectively, compared to the 30/31 it dealt before. For a headshot, you’re looking at 100/104 as opposed to 60/62. It’s also a mean weapon for taking down structures as it deals 150/157 damage to buildings now, whereas before it dealt 79/83.

There’s a couple other changes to weapons including the chance of finding a Stink Bomb as floor loot to 0.47% from 0.27%, and from a chest to 4.08% from 2.37%. The chance of getting an explosive weapon has also increased from 3.06% to 3.35%. There’s a good chance that explosive weapon will be the new Pumpkin Rocket Launcher too, as the chance of a Rocket Launcher has gone to 1.12% from 0.83%.

Fortnitemares

The new Fortnitemares event has been caused by the Cube erupting, splitting the floating island that used to be Loot Lake into multiple parts. One result of this happening is that Cube Fragments have been scattered throughout the map, spawning Cube Monsters - zombies to you and I. Large Cube Fragments can be found near the corrupted areas, while Small Cube Fragments spawn randomly throughout a match.

Cube Fragments are where you’ll find the zombies. Called Cube Fiends and Cube Brutes, defeating them will reward you with loot and shield. In order to kill them quickly, you’ll be better off using the Fiend Hunter Crossbow, because it has infinite ammo, is much quieter than a normal gun and it does 4x damage against Fiends.

Glider Redeploy

The other major change with this patch is that players can now re-deploy their glider after jumping off anything three storeys high or more. It works the same as it did in the Soaring 50’s limited time mode, though it’s not a permanent change. It’s been implemented as a “week-long test”, so make the most of it while it’s in the game.

Fortnite patch 6.20 is a big one and we’ve only scratched the surface here. There’s a bunch of other new changes such as players taking 50 seconds to die rather than 100 seconds when knocked down, changes to the storm timer, a plethora of new Playground minigames, items, and so much more. You can find the full patch notes here. Also, make sure you check out all of the leaked skins and emotes with this latest patch here.
