Whether you've already experienced the might that is Mewtwo or if Pokemon Let's Go is your first time wielding Mewtwo's psychic power, here's the best way to defeat Mewtwo in battle and claim him for your own!

Remember the first time you encountered Mewtwo? Whether it was in Pokemon Red, Blue, or Yellow, or one of the later titles, the mystery and sheer terror that was your first encounter with Mewtwo was no doubt a harrowing experience. If this is your first time dealing with Mewtwo, then congratulations! The only thing keeping you from the end of your long, arduous journey is the most powerful Pokemon on the Kanto continent. The King of Pokemon can be found in Pokemon: Let's Go! Pikachu & Eevee and while it isn't quite as fearsome as it once was, you'd best come correct when you step to it or risk getting obliterated.

The King himself, Mewtwo

How to Catch Mewtwo in Pokemon Let's Go

Remember that cave near the Nugget Bridge you couldn't access because the guy blocking you would only let the Champion in? Head back there as Pokemon League Champion and go inside. Enter the cave, then use Sea Skim all the way until the end of the pool of water. Take the lone ladder up, then head North again until you encounter another ladder that leads down to the next floor. After taking this ladder, head through the next ladder, then you will be face-to-face with Mewtwo itself. Save your game and make any final preparations to your team, then get ready to face Mewtwo.

A seriously frightening encounter for any Pokemon Trainer

Mewtwo "Boss" Fight

The Mewtwo boss fight pits you against a Level 70 Pokemon and has a 5-minute timer. Mewtwo will use Psychic, Recover, Swift, and Amnesia in this battle. The key is to reduce Mewtwo's health quicker than it can Recover while not getting smacked around by Psychic and, to a lesser extent, Swift. The best bet here will be to use a Psychic-type Pokemon, like Mew, with TM21 - Foul Play, which deals damage based on the defending Pokemon's Attack stat. Obviously, Mewtwo has a high Attack value, so this move should do considerable damage. Just like in the anime and manga, Mew makes the perfect foil to Mewtwo, but you can also sub in Pokemon like Alakazam, Hypno, and Slowbro if you don't have your own Mew yet. Just make sure to teach one of them Foul Play before battling Mewtwo. Once you defeat it, you'll be able to catch it. Use the Master Ball if you haven't yet. If you have, use those Golden Razz Berries and pray to Arceus you get a Great or Excellent throw and bring Mewtwo home.

Mew makes the perfect foil to Mewtwo, resisting its Psychic attack and hitting back with Foul Play

Once you capture Mewtwo, you can weild its Psychic power as you wish. If you have any outstanding battles or events to complete, bring Mewtwo with you and dominate them with ease. You seriously have the most versatile, powerful attacker in Pokemon history here - use it to your advantage!

Can My Mewtwo Be a Shiny Mewtwo?

Like every encounter in the game, there's a chance to encounter a Shiny Mewtwo. The same odds of encountering a Shiny occur here, so carve out a few days of resetting the game if you're trying to find one. But, the dilligent will eventually get what they want - a Shiny, green Mewtwo.
