Today, Valve announced CS:GO would be going free-to-play, making it the first F2P Counter-Strike title, and that the game would be receiving a battle royale mode. Danger Zone serves as CS:GO's unique spin on the battle royale genre, one that every FPS game developer seems to be getting into. Here's what we know so far about the newest challenger to Fortnite's throne:
How Danger Zone Works
Danger Zone matches run about 10 minutes long and will consist of 16-18 solo, duo, or trio players. The maximum number of combatants depends on what sorts of teams enter the fray. The goal here is to survive using limited resources, using new and old weapons and tactics to take down enemies. Current tools, like health shots, have expanded uses now. Sure, it'll restore some health, but it will also give players a temporary speed boost, which can come in handy when an enemy is hot on their tail. Players spawn with 120 HP now, meaning usual kill tactics won't work in Danger Zone. However, players can use some nifty technology, like tablets and drones, to get their hands on some resources to get a leg up on the opposition.
A Few Souviniers For Your Trip
There are a few goodies players can acquire by playing the new Danger Zone mode. First is the exclusive MP5-SD | Lab Rats, an MP5 with an awesome look to it. Only Prime players will be able to get their hands on the gun and earn 250 XP in Danger Zone. XP is earned by looting your environment, killing enemies and trying your best to survive (winning also probably helps too.) The second is a set of user-generated skins for popular weapons. You can check them all out at the bottom of the Danger Zone info page.
So what're you waiting for? Hop on Steam, go download CS:GO, and start playing today! We'll see you on the battlefield!
