We're in the midst of FUTMAS right now in FIFA 19 Ultimate Team, and someone has discovered the secret to predicting which players will be featured in the daily FUTMAS SBCs.

FUTMAS has existed within FIFA Ultimate Team for a few years now, but the rules seem to change very slightly each year. There’s seven days worth of FUTMAS Squad Building Challenges left in FIFA 19, and one Redditor has worked out the secret behind EA’s decision making for who gets an SBC and upgraded FUTMAS card.

FIFA 19 Ultimate Team FUTMAS Day 1
The first day of FUTMAS gave us Lucas Torreira, Alejandro Gomez and Wilfried Zaha.

/u/stebus88 has explained that - at the time of the post, almost two days ago - there were nine days left, with three SBCs and upgraded FUTMAS cards each day. EA decides the three FUTMAS players each day on three individual factors: their shirt number, counting down from 11, a player from the top 11 nations in the FIFA World Rankings, and a player from the top five leagues that finished in that respective placement last season.

That may seem complicated, so let’s break it down:

For the first SBC each day, it will be a player with the respective shirt number. For example, Sunday, December 16 was the third day of the FUTMAS Squad Building Challenges. One of the players was Roberto Firmino, because he wears number nine on his shirt. Previous days featured someone who wears number 10, and before that was 11. Today - Tuesday, December 18 - will be someone with the number seven, tomorrow will be six, all the way until Christmas Eve where we’ll get a player who wears the number one.

The second FUTMAS upgraded player each day is from the top 11 nations in the FIFA World Rankings. Yesterday, Monday December 17, we got Manuel Akanji. He’s Swiss, and that’s because Switzerland are ranked eighth in the world. Today, we can expect someone from Uruguay, followed by Portugal, then England, and so on.

The third and final FUTMAS upgrade each day refers to last season’s league finish. It’s harder to predict this because it can be from one of five teams in the top five leagues: Premier League, La Liga, Serie A, Bundesliga, and Ligue 1. Yesterday, we got Mario Balotelli from Nice in Ligue 1, because last season, they finished eighth. The day before, we got Denis Zakaria from Borussia Moenchengladbach because they finished ninth last season. Today? We could get someone from Burnley, Sevilla, Atalanta, VfB Stuttgart or AS Saint-Etienne.

FIFA 19 Ultimate Team FUTMAS Day 4
Yesterday in FUTMAS, we got Manuel Akanji, Andres Iniesta and Mario Balotelli.

Of course, it’s not easy to predict who will be featured each day but using this method, it’s certainly possible. We’d definitely recommend checking out the full linked Reddit post above, so you can see exactly which nations and teams will be eligible each day. As for today and tomorrow? Here are our predictions:

Tuesday, December 18th

Player with shirt number seven: Franck Ribery (Bayern Munich)

Uruguayan player: Edison Cavani (PSG)

Player from a team who finished seventh: Wissam Ben Yedder (Sevilla)

Wednesday, December 19th

Player with shirt number six: Davinson Sanchez (Tottenham Hotspur)

Portugese player: Joao Cancelo (Juventus)

Player from a team who finished sixth: Henrikh Mkhitaryan (Arsenal)

Follow the same pattern for each day to make your own predictions. Of course, these could be way off the mark but they are all players that would make sense for FUTMAS upgrades.

Have you unpacked anyone from last week’s Team of the Week yet?
