Play enough Super Smash Bros. Ultimate and you'll sometimes be rewarded with the opportunity to unlock a new character to use in all game modes other than World of Light. To do that, you'll have to beat them in combat. But, look, sometimes things don't always go your way. We know you totally broke that throw or spot dodged the exact moment your opponent forward Smashed and sent you flying to your death. It's okay, we believe you. Seriously.
If you are ready to admit defeat and take another shot at unlocking the character who beat you the first time, here's how.
How to replay Challenger Approaching battles in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate
Rematches with Approaching Challengers in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate can be arranged by making a dive through the game's menu. Head over to the main menu and look for the Games & More section. In the bottom-right corner of the screen, there will be a small glowing icon displaying a set of double doors labeled Challenger's Approach near the lower right-hand side of the screen. Select it to challenge a foe you didn't quite get a handle of the first time around.
It's worth noting that you can't choose which Approaching Challenger to battle; rematches will proceed in the order they appeared to the player. Fortunately, the second time around, players will likely either be more familiar with their opponents, or they can choose a character they may not have had access to the first time.
If you manage to blow it again, there's a bit of a cooldown on the runback, but you'll never run out of opportunities to battle the unknown challenger. Though, by the fourth or fifth time fighting them, they're not really unkown, right?
The Challenger Approaching screen has been a staple of the Smash series since the very first game. The sense of nervous excitement we get from seeing that screen pop up never gets old. On the flip side, one of the features to debut in Smash Ultimate, Spirits, is getting an influx of new blood starting real soon. Check out what Mario-themed Spirits you'll be able to unlock starting on December 28!
