Gen.G and Seoul Dynasty are making some major moves in staffing. The organization has appointed former Major League Baseball executive Chris Park as their new CEO.

As we work our way towards Overwatch League Year 2, a fresh season of League of Legends, and a number of other esports events and seasons, organizations continue to make big moves. Recently, Seoul Dynasty and Gen.G made their own enormous change: appointing a new CEO to the organization in Chris Park.

The news was announced via a press release from Gen.G on January 15, 2019. Chris Park comes to Gen.G from Major League Baseball where he was Executive Vice President of the organization. In addition to Park’s appointment, Gen.G co-founder Kevin Chou will be moving into an Executive Chariman position in the org. Park will be working closely with Chou to oversee day-to-day strategy of Gen.G operation and be based in the new Los Angeles headquarters Gen.G is establishing for its United States teams. Both executives are pleased with the new move.

“I can’t express how thrilled I am about this new journey into the esports world with Gen.G,” Chris Park said of the move. “Having spent years with a traditional sports league, it was evident that competitive gaming was booming — well now it’s here and here to stay. I look forward to continuing to build an esports powerhouse in Gen.G, especially here in the US and specifically LA, setting the bar for what a gold standard organization should look like.”

Kevin Chou shares Park’s enthusiasm and optimism.

“We are extremely excited for Chris to join Gen.G and lead us to new heights,” claimed Chou. “He has a brilliant mind for growth and innovation, and we look forward to him applying his great skill set with Gen.G. We have big goals for 2019 and beyond, and Chris is the right person to lead us into the future.”

Park’s inclusion is an interesting effort by Gen.G. In a recent interview with Arnold Hur, we spoke about similarities between the evolving Overwatch League and Major League Baseball models when it comes to roster depth and situational play. It will be interesting to watch Park in action and see if his knowledge of a world of traditional sports translates successfully to management of Gen.G’s esports
