A new bug is going around on Smash Bros Ultimate directly connected to its first DLC character, Piranha Plant, which could delete save data. Here are the details & how to avoid it.

Many players have been waiting on the quirky new addition to the Super Smash Bros Ultimate roster that is Piranha Plant, but there’s a bump in the road on the way to getting the carnivorous plant. A newly discovered bug could delete player’s save data if they’re not careful, but it’s confined to a very specific mode in the game.

Patch 2.0.0 for Smash Bros Ultimate was released on January 29, 2019, which included a number of changes including the addition of the Piranha Plant character. Those who redeemed codes offered for buying the game before the release of Piranha Plant got the character unlocked for free. Unfortunately, a major issue soon made itself known when playing the character in Smash Ultimate’s All-Star Mode.

It would appear that the bug is confined solely to Smash Bros Ultimate’s All-Star Mode, but players have been reporting the issue all morning, meaning it’s likely not a fluke. Whatever is causing the issue, Official Nintendo channels have yet to comment on the matter. For the time being, if playing All-Star Mode, it’s best just to avoid Piranha Plant altogether and be on the safe side. We’ll have more details as soon as Nintendo speaks to the matter or releases a fix for the All-Star Mode Piranha Plant bug.

In the meantime, a bug in one spot doesn’t keep you from playing Piranha Plant elsewhere in Smash Ultimate. We have a breakdown of Piranha Plant to get you ready to jump into some potted Piranha fun.
