Apex Legends might be solely a team game at the moment, but that doesn’t stop good players from shining brightly. Such is the case of Houston Outlaws player and content creator Lucas “Mendokusaii” Håkansson who recently put up a stellar game in which he scored an incredible 36 kills in one match. It’s a run that has to be seen to be believed.
Mendokusaii posted this amazing feat on February 19, 2019 on both his Twitter and YouTube channels. In the match, Mendo drops as Wraith with two team mates who are almost instantly caught in a fight, killed, and leave the game. It would be a tough situation for any player to try to overcome, but he goes on a tear. After acing the squad that knocked out his team and catching another squad likely looking to play vultures to the situation, Mendokusaii continues on his merry way with Wingman and R-99 in hand, punching holes in the Void and enemies alike. You can see all of the stellar run in the video below. (Caution: Explicit Language - NSFW)
There are a few close calls to be certain (as might be expected of a situation where a player has to do constant 1v2's and 1v3's to survive), but Mendokusaii puts on a masterclass of strafing, accuracy, and on-the-run healing and shield repair that allow him to dodge in and out of fights like nobody’s business. It’s at the 25-kill mark at around the 9-minute mark of the video that Mendo turns the music off to really concentrate on his run and just two minutes later, he’s imploring teams not to kill eachother, recognizing the accolade he’s stacking up in his run. All of this is despite being the self-described “worst player in the world” for a few seconds.
Nonetheless, Mendokusaii manages to whittle the map down to two squads and dismantle them one by one. One random gets caught in the ring and another gets caught not paying attention in a corner, but the last squad he faces is an outright, heads-up firefight in which his skill prevails. At the end, Mendokusaii has 36 kills and 5,460 damage to show for his effort, outdoing the record of 33 kills set by Coby “Dizzy” Meadows of NRG Esports.

Mendo set a hard bar to reach to say the least. He was helped along just slightly by the circumstances of having two squadmates who dropped out literally seconds into the game, allowing him to have the whole spotlight, but then he delivered under pressure throughout an entire match. Can it be beaten? Nothing is impossible, but it will be a tough record to break under the fairly-specific circumstances. Even Mendo modestly calls the achievement "just luck". That said, Apex Legends is a very young game and we look forward to seeing what kind of new bars players continue to set. For now, a big congrats to Mendokusaii on the record-setting run.
