The two latest entries into the Pokemon franchise - Pokemon Sword and Pokemon Shield - were announced today during NIntendo's Pokemon Direct

New Pokemon games are here! Today, during the latest Pokemon Direct, the two newest Pokemon games were announced. Pokemon Shield and Pokemon Sword become the latest entries into the beloved Pokemon franchise.

The games will take place in the Galar region, an area that seems to be inspired by Scandinavian countries and ripped straight from the world of Frozen. We also saw a glimpse of the three starter Pokemon: Grookey, the Grass-type monkey, Scorbunny, the Fire-type rabbit, and Sobble, the Water-type tadpole-ish looking thing. Fans seem to be into Scorbunny the most, but we'll take Grookey.

But that's it. We don't know anything about legendaries, mascot Pokemon, even the Trainers that will populate the world other than the starter male and female characters. All we know are the names, the logos, and the three starters. Nintendo did a great job giving us a small taste of what to expect, but not much else. EDIT: Based on the trailer below, we now know the game will indeed be the first Pokemon main series game on a home console, releasing for the Nintendo Switch later this year (unless they're just putting the Switch imaging before the video to throw us off the scent...)

So what do you think, trainers? Are you excited for Pokemon Sword and Shield? Which starter is your favorite so far? Join the Twin Galaxies community today and let us know your thoughts! As more details become available, we'll keep in the loop, so stay tuned. While we wait for more Poke-info, check out what's in store for the Pokemon World Championships, going down this summer in Columbus, Ohio!
