The $1 Million Dollar Magic: The Gathering tournament Mythic Invitational nabs title sponsor in OMEN by HP, proving Trading Card Game Esports is still on the rise.

Wizards of the Coast, and their much adored Magic: The Gathering, have been making some great announcements so far this year, doing their part in dissolving any suspicion that card-based Esports might be losing steam. Recently, the entire 2019 year was laid out for both physical and digital Magic: The Gathering tournaments.

The Mythic Invitational is Magic: The Gathering’s biggest competition ever, and they have recently revealed that the first (of a hopefully annual) tournament will take place tea-side during the wildly popular PAX East convention in Boston, Massachusetts from March 28th-31st. But that’s not all. They’ve also decided to show up to the event in style, sporting a beloved brand as much more than just arm-candy.

In an unprecedented partnership announcement, Wizards of the Coast have revealed that OMEN by HP will be their leading sponsor heading into the the Mythic Invitational tournament in just a few weeks. With that, OMEN will be providing part of the prize pool (a fully kitted rig), as well as be the on-hand computers that players will use during the run of the tournament.

Esports events, as a whole, have always relied pretty heavily on major sponsorships to hold the events that they do, at the scale that they do them, but it’s almost unheard of that a reputable title sponsor like OMEN comes on board for a TCG (trading card game) tournament. In the past, TCG events have had to rely almost solely on the support of their developers. See Blizzard’s over-indulgent Hearthstone stage set-up, and lively esports scene. Or, the recent self-hosted Gwent tournament that CD Projekt Red held.

Now, this doesn’t necessarily speak into the basement, or ceiling of the card-game Esports audience potential, but bringing on major sponsors such as OMEN by HP can greatly increase popularity and health in regards to an industry, event, or Esports league.

The Magic: The Gathering Mythic Invitational is set to be the biggest tournament in the new digital age of the card-based game, with a total prize pool of $1Million USD. The winner of the Mythic Invitational will snag themselves a $250,000 USD stack of cash (or hilariously large cheque, because that never gets old), as well as an OMEN by HP gaming rig.

The Mythic Invitation is set to be a pretty big show, and we truly can’t wait to see what a full-blown Magic: The Gathering event is going to look like, and it's inarguable that OMEN by HP is a grand addition to the tournament.
