The Mortal Kombat 11 roster just got more devious with Shang Tsung coming to the game as its first confirmed DLC, played by none other than Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa of the Mortal Kombat movie!

All along the weeks of news and information coming out about Mortal Kombat 11, one of the questions on everyone’s mind has been who the DLC and guest characters would be. Though many pleaded for Shaggy, that dream and meme was killed on an early Kombat Kast. After that, attention shifted heavily to who would show up, but nobody could have guessed at the return of Shang Tsung, played by Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa of the first Mortal Kombat film himself. After a panel at C2E2, we can confirm. Shang Tsung will be the first DLC of MK11, announced alongside regular roster character Noob Saibot.

The Mortal Kombat 11 C2E2 panel took place on March 22, 2019, where the NetherRealm team took the stage to show off a slew of new goodies for the game, including some making-of videos, behind-the-scenes and more. The meat and potatoes of the presentation saw the new reveal of Shang Tsung in all of his hellish glory, as well as fan favorite character Noob Saibot (shown just a touch early). Ed Boon played at people’s attention with a slew of tweets regarding the best players in Mortal Kombat 9 and whether it was meant to be or not, it got people talking about Noob Saibot making the cut, complete with a disgustingly dastardly fatality. For Shang Tsung's part, you can see him in his own glory below.

In a series punctuated with the likes of horror icons like Leatherface form Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Jason Voorhees from Friday the 13th, the Xenomorph from Alien, and the iconic Predator, Mortal Kombat 11 is bringing star power to the scene this time. We already knew we'd be getting Ronda Rousey as Sonya Blade. That said, every Mortal Kombat fan should recognize Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa who played Shang Tsung in the extremely popular Mortal Kombat film. Tagawa is a legend and to have him back in the role of Shang Tsung for Mortal Kombat 11 seems like one of the greatest love letters to old-school Mortal Kombat fans possible, even if just as DLC.

With Noob Saibot and Shang Tsung to add to our confirmed character list for Mortal Kombat 11, the roster continues to swell with potential, and though we only get a fraction of it in the Beta on March 28, the whole thing on April 23 is looking like a devilishly fun time.
