It seems that the Canucks Sports & Entertainment owners like the taste of Esports, as the Aquilini GameCo files for the acquisition of OWL partners Luminosity Gaming.

The Canadian company known as the Aquilini Investment Group seems to be very interested in making their recently born relationship with Luminosity Gaming a more permanent one.

Since joining up last year, the Aquilini Group and Luminosity Gaming have seen some success as partners in the recently crowned Overwatch League Stage 1 Champions Vancouver Titans. The future relationship looks to be beneficial for all parties involved. After the acquisition, Luminosity Gaming founder Steve Maida will reportedly act as President and Director of the new look Aquilini GameCo.

According to public filings, the Aquilini Group has raised the necessary capital, in the realm of $25 million, in order to fully purchase the gaming corporation. Sometime last month, the Aquilini Group posted a formal letter of intent, before attempting to secure the funds.

Within that financial report, the Aquilini Group owned Aquilini GameCo will take over holding of J55 Capital Corporation through the proposed acquisition. The rundown of the merging looks

The Aquilinis own and operate Vancouver's NHL Team as well as Canucks Sports & Entertainment, Rogers Arena, and other ventures. Just last year, they broke into Esports by purchasing the rights to the Vancouver expansion team for the Overwatch League and signing a partnership agreement with Luminosity.

Luminosity Gaming has an illustrious, albeit short, history in professional Esports. Just last week Luminosity's CoD4 team, helmed by veteran superstar FormaL, won the Call of Duty World League Fort Worth Major. The Toronto-based brand was founded in 2015 by Canadian Steve Maida, and have been providing the day-to-day operations of the Overwatch League’s Vancouver Titans.

For the complete rundown of the legal documentation, see the GlobeNewswire press release regarding the letter of intent, and the financing completion by the Aquilini Group.

Twin Galaxies reached out to Luminosity Gaming regarding the acquisition but have yet to receive any communication. It is still mostly unclear as to whether or not Luminosity Gaming is willingly participating in the “reverse takeover”, and what it means for all Luminosity Esports teams moving forward.

More updates will come as news unfolds.
