In the latest edition of "This Week at Bungie," community manager Cozmo unveiled the development team's changes to Iron Banner, which begins this weekend, and also the game's hottest material: Enhancement Cores.

Guardians rejoice, as our pleas to the development team have been heard regarding Enhancement Cores! In the latest "This Week at Bungie," community rep Cozmo unveiled the development team's plans to give Guardians access to more Enhancement Cores on a regular basis.

"Scrapper Bounties previously dropped randomly when dismantling gear. There was no reliable way to earn Enhancement Cores using these bounties, and we didn’t feel they were providing enough materials," Cozmo said in the weekly blog series. "We will be deprecating these bounties at the start of Season 7. (Note that any unfinished Scrapper Bounties still in your inventory when the new season begins can still be completed before their natural expiration.) In their place, the Gunsmith will now offer a selection of daily and weekly bounties that can be purchased for Gunsmith Materials. As with the Scrapper Bounties, each of these will include, among other things, an Enhancement Core as a reward when completed."

The rare-but-pleasant sight of the Scrapper Bounty will leave, but in its place will be a set of bounties purchasable with Gunsmith Materials (really wish they told us that before we used them to gain Gunsmith rep, but whatever.) At least we now have a regular way to get Enhancement Cores, the necessary evil within Destiny 2's Infusion system. However, it's more refreshing to keep the cores in the game and have them be slightly easier to get, rather than removing them from infusion (or removing infusion altogether.)

Iron Banner Changes

Starting with this weekend's Iron Banner (March 26 - April 2,) Guardians will have two different modifiers to choose from when battling their peers in the fan-favorite mode. The first, called "Iron Burden," lowers the Guardian's power level by 100, but gives Iron Banner Tokens for each win. Killing 500 Guardians with the Iron Burden debuff active will unlock a Triumph and a sexy Masterworked version of Wizened Rebuke.

For Guardians who might be a little behind the curve, Iron Banner offers the "Wolf's Favor," which increases the Guardian's power by 100 for each stack, up to 7 times, for 30 minutes. Wolf's Favors can be obtained by completing:

  • Daily Heroic story mission
  • Vanguard strikes
  • Nightfall
  • Flashpoints
  • Gambit (Forsaken only)
  • Weekly milestones from Ikora and Hawthorne

There will also be a change to the Iron Banner bounty system. Per Cozmo, "Bounties have been updated to provide more choice and address feedback from previous Seasons over how long it took to earn progress toward various objectives. Each bounty will grant a powerful reward upon completion. Additionally, completion of a bounty will unlock the ability to direct purchase specific rewards from Lord Saladin. Saladin will also offer a new emblem you can pick up after completing all the weekly bounties called the Weight of Guilt. It will track higher-Power opponents defeated while under the effects of The Iron Burden. We have also added an updated version of Orewing’s Maul with random rolls that will drop from match completion and from token packages."

We're hoping these changes make the Iron Banner experience more enjoyable for Guardians and we're also excited to get our hands on more Enhancement Cores! Lord knows we need to bring our Whisper of the Worm up to max power. To see more of the awesome new Iron Banner gear, check out This Week at Bungie. If you haven't seen Xur yet, then what are you waiting for? Come see what he's got in store and learn how to complete Xur's latest trial, Justice, before Friday!
