In a little bit of a surprise twist, PlayStation's State of Play Stream confirmed Mortal Kombat series veteran Jax Briggs, as well as Liu Kang and Kung Lao, as playable.

It’s usually on the Kombat Kast we get to see new Mortal Kombat 11 news and reveals, but it was PlayStation’s State of Play stream that had an all new reveal for us this time. On a stream of the latest upcoming PS4 games, we got a new Mortal Kombat 11 trailer, which finally confirmed the existence and playability of Jax Briggs, alongside previously story-confirmed Kung Lao and Liu Kang.

The PlayStation State of Play stream on March 25, 2019 was sort of Sony’s version of the usual Nintendo Direct events in which we got to see a number of projects including the latest on upcoming Days Gone and new adventure game Concrete Genie. The Stream was short and sweet, but it ended on a high note with an all-new Mortal Kombat 11 trailer. In that trailer, we saw a host of new story details, but what stood out among them was not only story, but also gameplay appearances by Jax Briggs, Kung Lao, and Liu Kang. You can see the entire section with Jax, plus a little extra in the clip below.

In line with the time shifting story of Mortal Kombat 11 that’s been shown so far, Jax, Liu Kang, and Kung Lao come up against future versions of themselves. We got a glimpse of what Jax can do, including heating up his fists for likely extra damage and some hard-hitting command grabs. Kung Lao and Liu Kang showed off a little Fatality fun in their small appearances, but while one was in context of the story, another section was clearly gameplay. With that, the two finally move from mere story placement to the confirmed list of Mortal Kombat 11 characters.

The game isn’t far off on April 23. With Jax joining daughter Jacqui Briggs and Shang Tsung coming in as the first DLC character, the slots are filling up fast. Has your favorite character made it in yet? Stay tuned for more news and info as we look forward to the launch of Mortal Kombat 11.
