On Friday, popular Twitch streamer Shroud went into surgery to repair a broken elbow he suffered while riding his scooter without any protective gear. His return to the platform anytime soon is questionable.

Two weeks after horribly breaking his left (keyboard) arm in a scooter accident, streamer and ex-Counter-Strike pro Michael ‘Shroud’ Grzesiek has undergone surgery to repair the “many broken bones” in the joint. His return to Twitch isn’t going to be immediate.

Post-Surgery Update

Shortly after 10:00 AM (pst) on Friday, March 29th, Shroud went into surgery, and a few hours later he tweeted out that his arm “hurt like hell” and said that he “won’t be streaming for a while,” before apologizing to his fans for the upcoming hiatus. But we doubt he’ll be gone for long, he just may not be gaming when he finally does return to streaming.

Shroud, who was once a professional Counter-Strike player for North American team Cloud 9, now streams on Twitch. For the most part, he plays FPS titles, though he isn’t a stranger to MMOs or party games when the time calls for it. Recently, he’s seen a huge influx of viewers and fans with his stellar Apex Legends play.

Just a few days before he took his new scooter out for an unsafe joy-ride, he broke something else. It was the 100,000 subscribers milestone on Twitch. Immediately after the achievement, he paid it forward by donating thousands of dollars to another streamer who was in need. At the end of the day, Shroud is an epic FPS player, but he seems like an even better human being, which has been a huge part of his success on the public-facing platform.

Surgery #2

This is the second major surgery on the elbow that he injured near the beginning of March. After the events of the accident, his roommate Just9n retold the story with a heavy heart in which Shroud “could have easily died” if things were any different.

Stuck in an almost complete arm cast, Shroud returned to his stream in limited capacity just a few days after sustaining the injury. But with his arm in a straight splint, the live-streams have been pretty short, and presumably uncomfortable since.

There’s no word yet from Shroud as to whether or not more surgery will be needed in the future, and we suggest you don’t hold your breath in anticipation. Right now, Shroud is recovering and is apparently in a lot of pain.

Here’s to hoping that there isn’t going to be a need for more medical procedures in order to get the god-tier FPS player back to his normal self.

Expect Shroud to pop-up out of nowhere on his Twitch channel under the ‘Just Chatting’ subject, because he made it apparent in the days following the original injury that he was easily getting stir crazy without the streams and chat to keep him company.

For now, we’ll work on getting some Twin Galaxies branded elbow pads and helmets sent his way.
