Fighting games and hip hop have crossed paths on a number of occasions and we were treated to the latest intersection earlier today. Lil' B, also known as The Based God, is a known fan of fighting games and video games in general. He's even released a song called "Hadouken" - you can listen to the (very, very NSFW) song featuring The Adopted Tabby Cat here. While we can wax poetic about some of Based God's bangers, we're more interested in a very cool exchange he had with one of the FGC's brightest stars:
shouts out to punk doing his think on street fighter he went rounds! - Lil B
— Lil B THE BASEDGOD (@LILBTHEBASEDGOD) April 1, 2019
After Punk finished second to RohtoZ|Tokido at NorCal Regionals 2019, he was shouted out by Lil B on Twitter. For whatever reason, it seems that Based God has some sort of magical abilities that can either provide postive or negative results to the recipient of his words. There are many instances of his blessings but two high-profile examples of his curse. Trust us, you don't want to be cursed.
Lil B's first curse came at the expense of NBA superstar Kevin Durant, who questioned B's fame. B cursed Durant, saying he'd never win a championship until the curse was lifted. When Durant ditched his longtime team, the Oklahoma City Thunder, for the Golden State Warriors (which, of course, play in B's home state of California,) the curse was lifted and Durant won his first of two (and probably three) NBA Championships.
Once Durant was free from the curse, B set his sights on his former OKC teammate James Harden after the latter's alleged "dance-jacking" of Based God's "cooking dance." The curse was ultimately lifted after a number of failures on Harden's behalf to defeat it, but Harden still has yet to win a championship.
With the Based God on his side, Punk will probably be a safe bet to win a tournament or two going forward. We're also hoping none of Punk's peers suffer from the wrath of the Based God's curse - but the memes would probably be pretty funny.
