100 Thieves Part Ways with League of Legends Mid-Laner Huhi

In what is most likely the first of many main team roster moves for the struggling 100 Thieves, their import mid-laner Huhi is the casualty that will most likely open the flood gates.

After only a single Spring Split with his new team, the last-place 100 Thieves League of Legends have decided to part ways with their mid-laner Huhi.

Speaking to the terrible Spring Split put together by the 100 Thieves owner Matthew ‘Nadeshot’ Haag was not shy about his disgust in the performance from his squad, stating that “We have a lot of work to do in between the Spring and Summer Splits to get to the bottom of whatever is causing all of these issues,” adding “I promise you there will be changes. We’re not stepping onto the stage with the same roster.”

“Of course everybody wants to be the best … there’s no denying that,” said Nadeshot. “I want 100 Thieves to be the best team on stage … this season was unacceptable in every way shape and form,” he added. “I’m going to do everything I can and work with my team and everything we can to improve,” Nadeshot would say before going on to express his desire to have “the fans be happy and proud to support our team.”

A Spring to Forget

The embarrassing way that the once-feared 100 Thieves line-up -- stacked to the Nexus with superstars in their own right -- wound up with a league-worst 4W-14L on the standings was frankly shocking. It was a freshly re-built squad that was set to rule the west. Prior to the start of the season, the upgraded 100 Thieves was predicted to land in either the 1st or the 2nd place spot through 18 Games and did just the opposite.

“We have a lot of work to do in between the Spring and Summer Splits to get to the bottom of whatever is causing all of these issues” added Nadeshot. “I promise you there will be changes. We’re not stepping onto the stage with the same roster.”

Their addition of Huhi before the 2019 Spring Split began was “controversial” according to the team owner. They banked on him for his steady performances throughout his career. Most recently of which were the three years he spent among the league’s best as a part of the Counter-Logic Gaming LCS team. He has a lot of top-5 finishes in his lifetime, and even won the 2016 Spring Split with that same CLG. Huhi also came on board as a fluent Korean-speaker, to help bridge the gap between shot-caller Aphromoo in the bot-lane and the rest of their stars.

After letting go of Jungler Meteos in 2018, the 100 Thieves League of Legends program brought on world-champion Bang from Korea’s SK Telecom, and kept their KT Rolster pick-up from a year prior in Ssumday. On paper, Huhi was the key to continuing the upward trend. 100 Thieves was a solid team last year, winning the 2018 Spring Split even, and the whole world was looking forward to what this improved roster would do. Until they did it.

Not Just Huhi's Fault

Speaking into the work ethic, positivity, and professionalism Huhi brought to the team in his short stint, the 100 Thieves announced on April 2nd that they had parted ways with the mid-laner on twitter.

“I don’t believe that this Spring Split can be boiled down to one person’s F***-up,” said Nadeshot in the team’s vlog. That, among other things, leads us to believe that Huhi is merely the first change that will be made before the start of the Summer Split in the LCS. As for Huhi himself, there's little doubt that he will find a new home in the North American league. If anything, on an Academy team where he can mentor some young players. In his tweet, he mentions that he is open to other roles, and the act of role swaping has been known to shake the cobwebs off of pro players for years.

In their most recent vlog, 100 Thieves coach Prolly said that “this break is going to be a lot of thinking,” and almost all of their members apologized at one point to the fans for their lackluster performance. One of the only remaining original members of the 100 Thieves LoL team, support player Aphromoo, added in his portion of the vlog that he “still really wants to win,” amending that by saying “if the team [100 Thieves] thinks they can win by replacing me, that’s fine.”

It shows across the board that the folks within the organization, and those in the stands want so much more from the 2nd year League of Legends squad. Currently Huhi is the only roster change for 100 Thieves, but as it seems there are no safe spots on this roster. Though, it’s probably safe to assume we will see Bang and Ssumday in 100T uniforms come the start of the 2019 Summer Split.
